Story 3 |
Emma proved to be a real good partner. She was smart, and it almost seemed like she was training to be able to survive a situation like this. Or she was born with the skills. But she was great at mapping places and pointing out possible suspects of this frozen-in-time problem. “A few streets from here, I used to have a friend. He said that there was a very old couple that acted suspiciously. I went there myself once when I was around seven. We could check there.” “You sure know a lot of people. I barely know any. Okay, we’ll go check.” The two of us walked the few streets, still checking the houses to recruit any other survivants of the time freeze. It didn’t take us long to get to the old couples’ house. “In here. Do we go together?” “It’s worth it, isn’t it?” I asked. Emma shrugged. “I don’t know. Is it worth it?” “I think so,” I whispered, before opening the door and slipping in. I checked behind me. Emma was following. We searched in parts. First the kitchen, then the family room and any other possible hiding places. Finally it was time to search their room, or so we thought it was their room. There were a few more left. We weren’t sure. “Let’s get this over with, come on.” Emma kicked open the door and stepped inside. The couple was there. But… like everyone else… frozen in time. “Well, isn’t that disappointing,” I said.“No. We still have more rooms, and tons of thousands of more houses,” Emma corrected. The other four rooms we searched separately. She searched one while I searched the other, and then the last two. Emma called me to the almost last room. She had found something. Very important. |
