BA: Movember |
Movember Even called No-Shave November We call October in Sweden for the Pink Month. To raise awareness of the women suffer from breast cancer. Different donations are made, such as they for example change some bottles, boxes and different sort of containers in the stores to pink. And for each sold they donate a small amount money for cancer. And so we come to November. To raise awareness to men suffering from cancer, but especially prostate cancer. But also, mental illness such as depression. How to show your support this month might be a bit different though, since you this month do not shave. Or at least spare your mustache to show your gratitude of having hair because of the fact that the treatments you get while suffering from cancer causes loss of hair, all, body hair. Movember first started as one organisation, Movember Foundation after 2 men meeting at a small bar talking about the idea of Movember. They found 30 men, 2003, willing to take this challenge, to grow their mustaches. Their task was to "change the face of men's health". Not only spare hair, but to be physical active, move, as in Movember. Four years later, 2007, Movember officially launches in the US in partnership with Prostate Cancer Foundation, Prostate Cancer Canada, Prostate Cancer Charity and even in spain with FEFOC. Participating countries 2008: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Spain, UK and USA The tradition not to shave started to spread more... and more, and just a couple of years ago, 2012, the Global Journal listed Movember as one of the top 100 NGO (Non Government Organizations). The same year different campaigns in Austria, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland. Movember Foundation has today, raised €542 million raised since 2003 worldwide. Also accoarding to Movember Foundation, 2030 it will be as much as 25% less men dying in too early ages. In 2015 Movember ranked 72 on the NGO-list! What started as something fun, with 30 men sparing their mustaches to the amount of 5 million today! So what are you doing with the razor in your hand? Put it down, let your hair grow and shine!
