I love that kind of characters: Strong females, not only sexy ones with tiny costumes, independent and badass <img src='/layout/nl/images/smileys/lol.gif' alt='<img src='/layout/nl/images/smileys/lol.gif' alt='<img src='/layout/nl/images/smileys/lol.png' alt=':d'>'>'> I'm more Marvel than DC, not for anything in special, only I've read more of X-Men for example than Batman ( I love him too, don't get me wrong ^^), but I enjoy characters from both... or even others, like Spawn for example <img src='/layout/nl/images/smileys/razz.gif' alt='<img src='/layout/nl/images/smileys/razz.gif' alt='<img src='/layout/nl/images/smileys/razz.png' alt=':p'>'>'>

In DC there is a series called Birds of Prey, you should check it out, those girls are awesome.  Other wise I'm a fan of the Storm / Wolverine pairings, shocked when his claws broke.
I respect the impact of Spiderman's first fiancé/wife dying in the comic did for the world of comics but I think it got overshadowed since then with all the other stuff that happed in that series.
Don't let me get started on what Wonder Woman was originally intended as....

Uff...Birds of Pray... I've heard good things about the comics but once I tried to watch the TV serie and it killed my interest a bit. Later, I started to read random stuff (some of Deadpool, a bit of Lobo, etc.) and forgot it completely.
Wolverine is one of the best and one of my fav childhood treasures is a comic that belonged to my brother about Wolverine in Japan. One period i love was the time he was fighting with his inner beast and lived in woods that surrounded the school ^^
Storm is other character that is great. From her I love the time she changed her look and got her mohawk, leather clothes and kickass boots XD The look was cool, but I like these numbers more because she suffered a meltdown, she broke, she said 'F**k off everything!' and renew herself. And the super-power of Forge is great <img src='/layout/nl/images/smileys/lol.png' alt=':d'>
Wonderwoman, well, I always loved the amazon world, but I have to say I've read a few of her, mostly old stuff.^^

I warned you... Wonder Woman was written at a time when comics were for adult men, it was filled with her getting tied up by her own rope crazy for a reason.  Hugh Heffner had yet to make his magazine and the sensors had yet to realize "little" boys would want to read them too. lollol  Talk about an intro to the "birds and the bees"!!!  Actually the DC online RPG makes her to be a better superhero.

Have you heard of Elseworlds?  I think that putting heros into other situations is intriguing and fascinating.  Especially Superman as Tarzan!

Personally my fave American comic is Catwoman, the first series, when she was still technically a bad guy.  She was more symbolic of what real woman are like, the enigma wrapped in a sexy conundrum.
