the thing is though, we don't really have the infrastructure for the boo in tourism they expect with this?
like I get that Eurovision fans are happy, because like ... it's this OG country returning back to the stage, we won a lot, we were part of the founding group, it's just this big thing and I can appreciate it for that. But we genuinely quit the contest for financial reasons and back then the RTL group was financially better off? Like I don't understand how nowadays, in a financially way more trying time, they decide to go back on their financially sane decision???? So, I guess a bunch of people are happy on the cultural level, but just the political and economic decisions behind it are utter crap and I feel like most people here see right through it.

I was looking for comments online in newspapers for a few comments and usually the people aren't really that negative in the culture section.

btw, that one article I found was really annoying me with this wonderful phrase right here:

Like, I love when you can smell the boomer-hatred for English as a language and just the classist ideal of French being the superior language in journalists' writing over here. Like, first of all, most of them are the first to bitch about how Luxembourgish is dying out because of all the French speaking people coming to work here (which we kinda have to have, because most of us are either not qualified or unwilling to pay for those low wages because the cost of living is just too high here.). And then second of all: We are in a second wave when it comes to language changes and more and more people here speak basically only English, because Luxembourg on an economical level is trying to become more and more attractive to big firms (like Google and Amazon) because this means big time money and we need it. But oh no, we daren't discuss THAT aspect of the problem. No no, we merely bitch about people having to call stuff in English names. (grrrr, *goes to have an aneurysm somewhere*)

And like, I appreciate the joke in all of this, how we had to have a gay prime minister for someone to care about our history in ESC again, just further drilling home the point of how queer ESC has become, but this is now just starting to be ridicuolous, because it really does cost a lot. Considering we have state elections this autumn and the whole Luxembourg returning thing was started last year, because the current government is struggling a bit with popularity, I really don't think this is doing for them, what they hope it is. They did a lot of good things that were fucking expensive and that got them hate by the population despite it actually benefitting the country and the people (like making public transportation free countrywide and rebuilding the public transportation infrastructure and adding new lines - public transportation still sucks depending where you have to go, but finally some parts of the country are properly connected to the big villages around them) and trying to reform the health sector, though abysmally failing because they somehow forget to communicate with the people it affects, like the doctors or the patients. But we finally got psychological therapy to be refundable to some degree by health insurance. Can you imagine? Just 3 months ago, you had to pay over 100€ per session out of your pocket - which was stupid expensive for most people and meant too little actual income for the practitioners. Like ... oh, I just feel like it's a bit fucked and the priorities aren't really set straight when it comes to this whole thing.
