So going at it the complicated way, the waffles I like best are "gaufre liégeoise" (those with the sugar cristals, this is important!), "Wäffelcher" (which are very common in Luxembourg), "Waffelen" (which are also common among the younger people here since no one has the iron for the old flat ones anymore) and only in last place are those that you get most commonly around here and that I only like if they are very tall but with thin grid (so they are very crunchy and not soggy, those waffles need to be really stiff, like you can hold them on one side and they do not flop or break) [images in order of mention]
Honorable mention for Stroopwafel, which we only have because BeNeLux is a fun thing, but they often are a bit too sweet for me.
As for pancakes, I know everyone is all hyped up about crêpes, which is nice, yes, BUT I much rather have the thin pan variation on pancakes we serve with soup.
Thick pancakes are ok (so the american style ones, but I don't like them as much).
My final rating goes as followed:
1. Gaufre liégeoise
2. Paangech (our pancakes)
3. Wäffelcher
4. Crêpe
5. Waffelen
6. Gaufre
Is this overly complicated? yes, but also I added pretty (somewhat) pictures, so that should make up for it. (I voted waffle in the poll)
I love you Masilein, because this is a whole thesis on pancakes and waffles.
