maybe religion in the future

will be examined like greek mythology is now

i was just thinking about this, like we make the assumption that the greek people back then all believed in these different deities, but knowing from all the information we have now, not everyone is religious. back then few people had ways to write things down that lasted through time, so maybe it's entirely possible that not everyone believed in those gods? maybe only a small portion believed..

like im not a historian so maybe im just spouting bullshit but it would be interesting to see the people of the future and have them be like 'look people back then believed in this dude that created the earth in 7 days' or 'people believed astrology determined their future',, like that's interesting tell me im not the only person who's thinking about it

Pretty sure smth like that has crossed my mind once
I often make titles for chapters in history books like "hunters & gatherers" and stuff but for this age "the age of trump and modern deaths" is my current one

It's all a matter of what you define as religion. I don't see it as likely that humans will abandon what I've learnt is the definition of religion, have you seen the way atheists act about their beliefs?

i always wonder how much of forgotten rituals and religion was actually that serious
like we find all these idols we say people worshipped but do we know if its any different from people who have crosses hanging on their walls as barely anything but decoration? like i wanna know these things

My godfather, aka a friend of my dad, were studying archaeology in the early 00s and they basically learnt that if you don't understand what the relic is it is a ritual object

no me neither, but it's still interesting how nobody actually 'believes' in greek mythology, since it's an extinct religion, or the ancient egyptian religion with isis and seth and those deities. so it's not per se the abandoning of religion as a whole, but maybe we will come into an age where things like christianity and islam will be viewed in the same vein as greek mythology ya get me?

well that's what we learn in history books. greeks worshipped them, they don't specify all greeks but it's something looked as a religion that people back then believed in. so all greeks is probably a bad word, but just greeks in general

Yeah, but no I don't think so unless we see something that shatters civilisation as we know it. Those religions were abandoned because the places where people believed in them were occupied or that the people died out, and another religion emerging. As of now, Islam and Christianity in particular has such a solid grasp of some countries that it's unlikely something else will take that place and shove it out in the cold, abandoned.

yeah that's true, but for a certain period of time, roman culture was the biggest thing in the world so it's not unlikely that such a giant shift could happen in the future

Christianity in its current form is arguably romanic tho

it's also super interesting to me that the desire to make sense of our existence, for example through religion, is a human concept and that basically being religious and having rituals, believing in things, is kind of what propelled our evolution?
