about Kentucky (where I live)

it's illegal to get a divorce in Kentucky if you're pregnant, even if it's by a different person than the husband.
My friend is trying to get a divorce right now and they won't let her until she gets a DNA test after her baby is born to prove it's not her husbands.
like, for real.
and in her situation it's not a huge deal because they're on good terms, but all I can think of is how many women can't leave abusive partners because of pregnancies...

You'd be surprised how many forward-thinking and radical folks are here trying to work hard and do the right thing. It's to politically gerrymandered it's hard to make change. Also I think a lot of laws are literally just old and no one has ever challenged them.

But there are some shithole humans here too.
Business owners literally got a mannequin, dressed it as Andy Beshear (our governor), and hung it from a noose outside his home in front of his children all because he enacted a mask mandate.

I mean, the usa is fucking huge lol

and even different counties and cities have different rules. Like, liquor stores are illegal in my town, but I can drive 20 minutes in either direction and they aren't.

I mean, me either.
It's just really depressing and hopeless feeling the more I learn - and I've been here my whole life.

What are race relations like there?

separate areas of the town?

I'll be honest, despite living in a town that was literally built by an abolitionist...there aren't many black people where I am at all, except college students or professors. Students tend to live in dorms, and professors and their families live in the same neighborhoods as everyone else.

As for surrounding towns, I'm really not sure because I'm not around enough to really observe it.

the town I live in, and the college here, was literally designed with desegregation in mind, it was the first co-ed interracial college in the south, and when The Day Law (forbidding interracial education) was passed in 1904 it fucked shit up and it once again segregated the town, and it doesn't seem to ever have fully recovered. There are lots of folks putting in good work to try and improve it here, but there's so many forces working against it.
