I still can't shade for shit on paper or when freestyling
you just have to be able to see where it's shaded on your reference picture and try to recreate it as well as you can
and the rest is all just a matter of practice

you won't know if you don't try
like, I can show you how my first designs looked like and then rethink if you really think you couldn't do that

(because I sucked reeeeeaaaaaally bad in the beginning)

Yeah same, like rlly bad, and I could already draw at that point (traditional, still sucked at digital art lol) so the skills at drawing and designing aren't rlly that connected imo
