yeahh it confused me
i saw that the op specifically says "partner" and "pairs" but the idea of doing paired secret santa is kinda just so absurd that i didn't think anything of it at the time of signing up

like not only does it remove the entire secrecy aspect of it but it can also make the gift exchange itself a little weird and awkward because if u send each other cash ur essentially just passing money back and forth?? shoutout to my partner for their very kind gift btw but i felt weird when sending my gift to them in return because it felt like i was just going "thank u for the money, take it back tho"

Yeah I don't think it was a wise decision at all for several reasons, two being as you say, it's basically just passing money back and forth and it gets kinda awkward... 
I feel like it could also make players feel forced to spend a certain amount to match what their secret santa gave them which isn't very ''holiday spirit'' to me. It's also sort of pointless in the aspect that you're more or less returning what you were given, the whole point of secret santa is to be given someone random.. so it just felt so weird to me

yeah i was surprised when the person i got was the person who sent me the message abt them being my secret santa, but then also getting a gift from the same person at the same time
