I agree that Sia is acting childish on her tweets, but other than that, I don’t get it? I mean I want to get it, but I don’t?

Actors of a marginalised community have it hard enough to land roles as it is, when there is a role that is part of that community and even then they don't get that role, that's kind of fucked up.

I mean if a character in a book is discribed as a dark haired 16yo who is 6'2 you probably wouldn't cast danny devito for that role either (except if it's a parody maybe)
No but let’s say you’re handed a script with a chick who plays the violin. Does the part have to go to only violin playing actors? Or can an actor who can “act” like the play the violin, do just as great a job?
Are real doctors only allowed to play fake doctors on tv? I’m trying to get the problem, but it’s alluding me. Not trying to be disrespectful, genuinely want to undestand

Again, not trying to make anyone mad, just curious and want to understand. We’re people upset too when “The good doctor” came out, and the lead was played by someone not on the spectrum?

And is the reason people don’t like Maddie, because she does a poor job? Cause then I totally get it, if she’s being disrespectful or doing the job poorly, then she shouldn’t do it, or if the writing is terrible and is showing people on the spectrum in a poor light/not showing what it’s like correctly

actors who play the violin or are doctors too aren't excluded from playing other roles of non-violin playing characters or non doctor characters.

autistic, disabled, trans, poc actors had a hard time to get cast in hollywood, especially in leading roles for a long time and still do and if they do get cast, racist fans make their lifes hell (john boyega, candice patton,....).

I'm not saying no non marginalized actor should ever play a role like that again, but at this point creators and actors should really ask themselves how their decisions impact the lifes of others.

Had she chosen someone autistic, there would probably be an issue with that too

i can count on less than one hand the amount of actors ive seen play autistics tolerably so arguably no they cant do a good job

u need a writer who can write an autistic character and u need an actor capable of acting as one. those two things rarely happen at once and when they do, its usually an accident apparently bc writer and actors alike go one entire tirades yelling about how the character is in fact not autistic they just have all the necessary characteristics to be diagnosed as it. pure conscience. shut up an consume

anyway screw sia shes being a baby

Okay that’s a fair point, but shouldn’t the part always go to the best actor? If, for arguments sake, the person on the spectrum, who was considered for the part, didn’t have sufficient acting abilities, but someone who wasn’t did, shouldn’t the part go to the person who can do it justice?

Okay fair, so, I’m not on the spectrum, so a series like “The good doctor”, did they represent it well? I have 3 cousins on the spectrum, but not in the same way as the main character in good doctor, so I don’t know anything about it?

if that was actually the case, they would invite actors of every gender, sexuality, skin color, disabled/not disabled,....... for EVERY role for every show which they don't do since creators often have a specific type for a role in mind.

there are plenty of good actors out there, it's their job to be good at acting. Someone can be the best actor in the world and still not be suited for every role there is.

Well you could never audition everyone, but let’s for arguments sake say that you had 20 actors in mind. 10 on the spectrum, 10 not. Out of those 20, the part will still go to whomever is able to preform the best audition for a producer or however that goes down. So if it so happens to be someone not on the spectrum, shouldn’t that then be alright, if they were the best actor amongst the chosen group?

Or do you believe they should’ve gotten 20 people on the spectrum in, and kept looking til they found someone on the spectrum? Like not ask anyone who’s not? Just curiousl cause I mean that could work too 🤔
