Why I love the album so much

The first thing that captivated me was the sound. You don't often get unique sounds and styles in music anymore, with trap beats and adlibs present in 85% of the music we listen to or find today, which is perfectly fine, but sometimes I think we need more diverse sounds too. But with such old-school rock inspirations such as David Bowie, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, and John Lennon, he took the older music we still love today and the newer sounds we've grown to love and use and put it together in this album accompanying the loss of his relationship. Maybe it's a reach, but I found listening to the tracks in order I found a story.

In Golden he praises his love like they're the sun, so golden and bright in his eyes and world. But yet he fears an end already.
-
"Golden as I open my eyes. Hold it, focus, hoping take me back to the light. I know you were way too bright for me. I'm hopeless, broken, so you wait for me in the sky. Browns my skin just right."
-

Watermelon Sugar, with it's naughtier theme, he can't get enough of the taste of her and wants his love all to himself, day and night.
-
"Tastes like strawberries on a summer evening and it sounds just like a song. I want more berries and that summer feelin', it's so wonderful and warm"
-

Adore You is where the light dims. He still love this person with all his heart, but he begins to acknowledge that maybe they don't really feel the same.
-
"You don't have to say you love me, you don't have to say nothing, you don't have to say you're mine. Oh honey, I'd walk through fire for you, just let me Adore you"
-

Lights Up I'll admit I find it harder to interpret, but I see it as him apologizing for being himself but embracing it at the same time. He won't really apologize for being how he is, and never wants to go back to how he was.
-
"What do you mean? I'm sorry by the way. Never coming back down. Can't you see? I could but wouldn't stay, wouldn't put it like that...
...Shine, step into the light, Shine, so bright sometimes, Shine, I'm not ever going back"
-

Cherry is where the relationship has ended. Sad, I know. Perhaps it was in Lights Up where it did, but here he can already tell she's moved on. He knows he jealous, he mentions it later, but now he's freshly mourning the relationship and hates that he found out she calls a new man what she used to call him.
-
"Don't you call him "baby" We're not talking lately
Don't you call him what you used to call me. I, I confess I can tell that you are at your best
I'm selfish so I'm hating it...
-
In Cherry we also find he has taken parts of the once relationship that he noticed he kept, and reminisces about the things he misses about her
-
...I notice that there's a piece of you in how I dress
Take it as a compliment...
...I, I just miss, I just miss your accent and your friends. Did you know I still talk to them?
Does he take you walking 'round his parents' gallery?"
-

At the end of the track is a sound clip of what sounds to be his ex Camille Rowe speaking french to someone on the phone:
"Coucou!
Tu dors?
Oh, j'suis désolée
Bah non
Nan c'est pas important
Ouais, on était à la plage, et maintenant
Parfait, ok!"
-

Falling seems to open up more about how the breakup affected the duo. He sings about being alone and missing his ex but needs to understand no matter what he says he can't take back what he's done. Some speculate cheating from the lines:
-
"I'm in my bed and you're not here, and there's no one to blame but the drink in my wandering hands. Forget what I said, it's not what I meant. And I can't take it back, I can't unpack the baggage you left"
-
In the chorus he's resentful of himself, and fears his ex is as well and will now see him in a negative view.
-
"What am I now? What am I now? What if I'm someone I don't want around? I'm falling again, I'm falling again, I'm falling.
What if I'm out? What if I'm down? What if I'm someone you won't talk about? I'm falling again, I'm falling again, I'm falling."
-

To Be So Lonely is how it sounds. Harry seems to be at the stage where he feels a bit bitter about the relationship, defending himself while also calling himself "an arrogant son of a bitch who can't admit when he's sorry" (my favorite line). Perhaps his ex is trying to rekindle a lost friendship with him but he has no interest, maybe because he is still dealing with the heartbreak, because it's hard for him to go home and be alone.
-

"Don't blame me for fallin', I was just a little boy
Don't blame the drunk caller, wasn't ready for it all
You can't blame me, darling. Not even a little bit
I was away, and I'm just an arrogant son of a bitch who can't admit when he's sorry.
Don't call me "baby" again. You got your reasons. I know that you're tryna be friends, I know you mean it. But don't call me "baby" again, it's hard for me to go home to be so lonely"
-

She sounds like he is telling a story of a man who daydreams of a mystery woman. Some speculate it is about Harry's hidden feminine side, some say it is about him daydreaming about the woman he longs for.
-
"She (she) She lives in daydreams with me (she) She's the first one that I see
And I don't know why I don't know who she is (she, she)"
-

Sunflower, Vol. 6 is where he's finally grieved the relationship, and looks back on it in a more positive light. He admits he held back a little, and avoided her afterwards, but now cherishes the memories they had together. This song has some of my favorite lyrics of all so I'll showcase some more.
-
"Sunflower, sunflower, my eyes want you more than a melody. Let me inside, I wish I could get to know you. Sunflowers, sometimes, keep it sweet in your memory. I was just tongue-tied.
And I don't want to make you feel bad but I was trying hard not to talk to you, sunflower."

"I couldn't want you any more, kiss in the kitchen like it's a dance floor."

"Wondering headshake, tired eyes are the death of me. Mouth full of toothpaste before I got to know you. I've got your face hung up high in the gallery out of this shade.

"Your flowers just died, plant new seeds in the melody. Let me inside, I want to get to know you."
-

(Canyon moon is likely about missing home or a certain place, TPWK Is as the song states. It is Harry's motto and is on his merch.

Fine Line is the last and title track of the album. It's the final end of his grieving.
-
"Put a price on emotion
I'm looking for something to buy
You've got my devotion
But man, I can hate you sometimes
I don't want to fight you
And I don't wanna sleep in the dirt
We'll get the drinks in
So I'll get to thinking of her
We'll be a fine line...
Test of my patience
There's things that we'll never know
You sunshine, you temptress
My hand's at risk, I fold
Crisp trepidation
I'll try to shake this soon
Spreading you open
Is the only way of knowing you
We'll be a fine line..."
-
I hope after my geeking out about this album and my perspective about the track that maybe you'll check it out. I'm not trying to be some obsessive fangirl, but I really have to appreciate and applaud the work and effort that has been put into this album and the others I will write about.
