Also is this like differentiated, the cultural appropriation thing, between like typical cultural designs and just random stuff like the hello kitty one or is it the same for u
Personally I cringe at the idea of someone using henna to do something like Hello Kitty but it doesn't completely bother me, I'm more bothered by the intricate designs that are similar / mimic the traditional henna designs

idk, i don't feel like contributing to the ethical/moral side of this conversation rn.
Damn 3 months! That is some good shit. :-)

yeah it was black henna, we were young and stupid

as an indian i don't see why white people getting henna is cultural appropriation? i know it's deeply rooted in indian culture (and other middle eastern and african cultures as well) but it's also a cool way to get temp tattoos and if ur having fun with it i don't mind
Thank you for your opinion and that is completely valid!

I think my issue with it is to do with the backlash I got growing up for wearing henna, which I will detail more in the post I make. I'll probably upload a blog about it once I get round to it if you are interested in seeing it!

For future reference black henna can actually be dangerous! It isn't natural and can cause a burn on the skin!

oh yeah i'd love to see it! that's ridiculous tho, that people would hate on u for getting a henna tattoo. i just think they're absolutely stunning as well as culturally important and u should respect that if ur not from that culture

i don't really think about it at all. my only experience with henna is when my mom took me and my brother out to get henna tattooes when we were kids on vacation in bulgaria

thank you, i found out 2 years later, we were young and didn't know better, they were just like hey want a legal tattoo that wears off after a few weeks, here are some motives and my bf at the time chose the hello kitty one and we did it.
looking back it wasn't the best decision, but thankfully we both were ok.

I had teachers call it dirty before, when I did it the traditional algerian way which is usually done for celebrations like eid and weddings, its a circle on your palm, or sometimes your entire front bit of your hand and fingernails, and another occasion a teacher tried to make me scrub it off before getting into the swimming pool!

lmao that's dumb as shit! i'd smack those teachers i'm so sorry u had to go through that

i've had henna done plenty of times esp before some relatives' weddings (which in indian cultures can go all the way up to ur elbows) and i've thankfully never experienced that

Really stupid and inappropriate for the teachers to react the way they did :-L
