why getting a diagnosis should be harder

im glad i got my adhd n autism spectrum diagnosis v easily mainly bcs most doctors tend to ignore the non-cognitive traits but with personality disorders and serious conditions such as bipolar or schizophrenia the diagnosing proces should be much, much more extensive especially with teens and young adults. like ppl have to jump through hoops to get an ADD diagnosis but i guess you can be assigned as bipolar based on one appointment with a new doctor?? it's wild

on topic of diagnosis i believe self diagnosing shouldnt be so controversial mayb
i believe the opposite bc i find people get really stuck on the specific thing they think and you cant really treat a diagnosis you gave yourself.
but also people see being self aware as self diagnosis and that pisses me off to no end. there is no point of a self diagnosis but its good to be aware of what you experience
Oh this is true

i think ur saying that its good to be aware of your symptoms but u shouldnt label them as like bpd or smth? i agree yeth,, although i also agree that with an actual diagnosis u understand urself better
but then in other countries getting a diagnosis is even harder than now and it seems like most people don't mind self-diagnosing if they did enough research

i wudnt recommend oneself to diagnose themselves with something more serious like a cluster A personality disorder

a doctor once sat and looked at me for 5 entire seconds and then went "you don't have adhd at least bc you're sitting still"
i don't think i have adhd but i just thought was funny

U r 19 and they want to talk to ur parents
oooooookkkkk

thats weird
and i agree with what u said!
but I also hate the opposite: when ur diagnose should be obvious but ur therapist doesnt get it bc stupid.
it affects ur life and the therapy too and how u r seen as maybe healthier than you are until u throw urself from the window.

^ this ! my sister's add diagnosis took 5+ years after she first started saying she might have add ?

but i got diagnosed with borderline immediately bc i have a history of self-harm and that's all they need to know for a bpd diagnosis apparently ?

also i think a lot of these things are pretty gendered ; add & autism are usually considered more 'male' diagnoses while borderline is a typically 'female' diagnosis which leads to a lot of over/underrecognition depending on ur gender

yes. and i think people should stick to just being aware of the symptoms they have bc as i said its so easy to get stuck and start to strongly believe this is it and then maybe ur ignoring the issue it might be

ppl really forget the "inattentive" part and the other various traits huh !! gotta love doctors who think theyre experts on autism and still think that all autistic people physically cant make eyecontact
honestly ive been really lucky with my doctors and social workers
having a doctor that doesnt trust or believe you (or think that you dont know yourself) are the actual fucking worst

i'm actually not sure why i got a bpd diagnosis because they never spoke to me about it they just put me on a waiting list for dbt which i got thrown out of when i had to move

I actually agree with this.
Over-diagnosing doesn't help anyone. :/
Fortunately for me my diagnosis's took time, especially since what I dealt with as a child can easily be misdiagnosed as autism.
It also took years + testing for me to find out I have ADHD.

no because i moved again lmao.
saw a doctor last september. spoke to a doctor on the phone in may. still waiting to get an appointment here (which i've only been told will take a long time) and writing something to report the place i was before because theyre supposed to keep treating me until i get an appointment here which they refuse it's a mess
