I think Europe does get a lot of info about America and so we are like "educated" but we get info from the news here which gives a very different view on it
lmao this is what i mean. like to be completely clear i recognize that europeans receive more information about america than vice versa. but like. that information will still NEVER measure up to the lived experiences of actual americans, and most europeans ive encountered r really very happy to tell me why their takes r the correct ones, try to question anything i say abt my own experiences growing up there nd like ?

the idea that just bc u watch a lot of american tv and get a lot of news from america and consume media from and about america that automatically means u actually understand america is just like false nd rly hubristic lol
I'm sorry but I'm not agreeing with the idea of "you can't talk about anything unless you have first-hand experience about what you are talking about".
not what i'm saying. i'm saying that

a. if you don't have first hand experience of smth and
b. you haven't done adequate research and aren't adequately informed about a topic

then perhaps u shouldn't say insensitive things about it

i know europe pays too goddamn much attention to america, but like i was saying in my original post its not like. thoughtful critical attention informed by genuine engagement with america. its sensationalist news tht feeds into european superiority complexes idk like. the media image of america in europe is just like wildly different from about 99% of my experiences actually living there. europe may pay more attention to america but that doesnt mean europeans are actually that informed abt anything going on w america. especially random europeans who dont spend a lot of energy learning but just wanna play armchair pundit

im not saying americans arent super ignorant abt stuff that happens in the rest of the world, i just think its tacky for uninformed europeans to make sweeping claims abt the state of american democracy etc. and it comes off as super insensitive when they seem to be genuinely enjoying the suffering of millions of people just bc it makes them feel better abt their own country / leadership / etc idk
There is no room for emotions in political discussion, it's contra-productive.
lol that sure is a take
Sure call it what you want but it is my opinion. Discussion rooted purely in emotion is just never going to result in anything productive. If people get blinded by their emotions when discussing politics you'll end up with a situation where people suddenly take the fact that you aren't agreeing with them as a personal attack, and then you get debates that look more like a sketch than actual acting do.

I think u can understand the stuff if ur critical enough
Obviously some karen from europe isnt gonna be correct but like I dont see how one can not have a proper opinion on smth just bc ur not there
i wholeheartedly believe there r a lot of europeans who r educated and informed enough 2 have takes on american politics. there are. i know a few of em myself even omg can u believe ?

but what im talking about here is the vast majority of ppl i have encountered who seem to delight in the decline of american "democracy" ( regardless of what that means for ppl living in america ) and love to tell me, an american, their uninformed takes as if theyre gospel

I dont think thats what hes saying either. And you cant expect that when you make big claims in an agressive way like this with the title and everything that people wont disagree and come with their opinion. You opened for discussion when you made the thread.

it's not only america's politics that get ridiculed anyways, there's plenty of other countries with equally as pathetic politicians and the population doesn't hesitate to make fun of them

but yes perhaps america is a victim of bullying, sad cry tragique moment
i dont think america is a victim lol, i never said that and u will never hear me say that

what i'm trying to say is that it's upsetting to me that people around me seem super happy ? amused ? delighted ? by the political developments in the US. its not ridiculing and its not critical at all, its enjoyment. that is really upsetting to me bc it feels like none of them r considering the ways in which so many americans are unsafe because of it. bc i know europeans who will have a lil giggle abt the american covid death toll bc "haha look what a disaster america is" and dont seem to realize that people are literally dying and going to continue to die ? idk tho maybe i'm just a crazy self-centered american who doesnt understand shit lmfao

he's welcome to say what he wants and i am really not trying to like. fight anyone here lol i promise. i'm just saying that i do not like being told to stop being emotional, or  that i'm not "discussing correctly" or be policed like that i think its condescending. like ppl are welcome to come disagree with me nd i am happy to engage with them, but i wont b told how im supposed to do that its not v nice

What
ur telling me that by being emotional im being 'contra-productive' ? i'm explaining to u that my goals in this r different than i guess u think they should be ? my primary goal here isnt to have "a productive discussion" but to have a lil rant and express my feelings. in which case being emotional is perfectly productive. thats all
