all autistic people experience their autism completely differently cus its a wide spectrum so i disagree !
What do u disagree with? Like what are ur thoughts on it? Do u think it might be the same thing as schizophrenia? Ive never heard that before so im super curious

the thing that makes me doubt that its the same is that ive never heard that autism causes hallucinations, delusions or psychosis which is a big part of schizophrenia.
that's a really good point and yeah you kinda answered ur own question. however i havent done like any research into schizoid... but as an autistic person if they were THAT similar surely i wouldve heard of it by now

in autism you're diagnosed on a point system which is based on multiple assessments over several appointments where u perform different tasks (at least in the uk) let me get up my own diagnosis report and show u what it looks like:

X
Yeah, scizoid is rlly just the negative symptoms of scizophrenia plus some more ig, it doesn't rlly categorize the same as autism lol, theres pretty major differences

@GvcciGoddess my post messed up so badddddd but i'll try to rewrite everything from memory

i got 11 points on the point system (didnt show -_-) which qualifies as autistic. but like every autistic person's result is different because autism is (mostly) a unique experience for everyone who falls into the spectrum. it ranges from "low functioning" to "high functioning" and a great example of this is how my brother is low functioning and almost COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM ME... like... someone not familiar with autism would definitely think, if they had to guess, that we don't share the same disorder

and becuz of how individual autism is, it's barely understood in clinical psychology - especially when it comes to autistic girls and women because there's also gender differences in how autism presents itself

from my 20 min research into schizoid, it's way less common than autism and the symptoms are quite rigid ? idk if thats correct? and one of the main aspects is not wanting to socialize? autistic people WANT to socialize. we just don't know how because we lack a grasp on social cues and have heightened anxiety. haven't seen anything about anxiety in my readings of schizoid so far

i find it callous to compare autism (a neurological disorder) to schizoid (a personality disorder) in the way being done here because it's blatantly w the intent to associate autism with negative connotations around the word schizoid or schizophrenic. but u know what even if those disorders ARE really similar i cannot fuck with a discussion that has stigmatizing undertones

I get the feeling that u might have mistaken schizophrenia for schizoid personality disorder in ur first post? Schizophrenia and schizoid are very different conditions they just have similar names so its easy to get them mixed up. I dont know much abt schizoid tbh. I dont know much about personality disorders in general except for borderline

Btw when i said schizophrenia and autism is similar i was talking abt how they manifest in social situations. Like from an outside perspective since schizophrenic ppl often are socially awkward in the same way a lot of autistic ppl are.

this is a stereotype
lots of autistic people do feel socially awkward but a classic trait of autism is masking, which is close observation of other people's social behavior and imitating it. u would never in ur life guess that im autistic if u met me irl without knowing

sry i just wanted to make sure i was understanding u right cuz i got a little confused when u brought up schizoid at first since i hadnt seen any mention of schizoid personality disorder in this thread earlier so i was just confused as to if we were even talking about the same thing or if we had misunderstood each other.

anyways ur explanation of autism was rly good and i rly like that u brought up how autism presents differently in women cuz i feel like thats sooo overlooked and should be talked about more since a lot of autistic women get misdiagnosed just bc they dont fit into the typical male based picture of autism. i highly agree with u.
i dont like the whole “oh this disorder and this disorder are the exact same thing” theories either. Like just bc a lot of disorders have similar symptoms or have some things in common doesnt mean they are automatically the same at all. Autism is autism. I dont get why some ppl feel the need to invalidate autism by calling it “the same thing as blabla“ cuz like.. no. Autism is just as real as any other disorder.

Yeah thats why visible autism n schizoid and schizophrenia (share some of the negative symptoms) may look similar on the outside

@GvcciGoddess lmfaooooo i literally spent two years believing i had BPD so yeah im a living example of autistic women being misdiagnosed.. the masking thing i mentioned is more common in females which makes female autism harder to detect but tbh i feel like masking itself should be detectable because it is not the same thing as interacting with understanding, it's imitation.. like if sociopaths are known to imitate socially acceptable behaviour then y arent we lol

also AGREED. autism is clinically referred to as a hidden disability and like.... i dont see anyone claiming that one physical disability is the same as another

omg yes ive heard about that! its mainly seen in women with autism right? I saw a video about misconceptions of autism in women a while ago and i remember a big portion about how a lot of women go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed bc of masking since women are better at observing and imitating others in general and therefore learn how to read social cues etc better
