starting medication

I just looked it up, the side effects are pretty much the same as any medication for depression or anxiety, I wouldn't worry too much about it. While I haven't taken the one that you mentioned, I'm on other medication with the same side effects and it hasn't really bothered me.

I'm not familiar with that one in particular.
If you don't mind me asking though is this strictly to treat anxiety?

Asking because the med you mentioned treats both.
Meds that treat both anxiety and depression tend to have harsher potential side effects than solely anti-anxiety meds. (Don't fully take my word for it, but xanax's list is less nerve-wracking than duloxetine imo).

It doesn't mean they won't work for you or you'll experience any of those side effects. I've been on meds like it before and never experience any of the side effects listed.
(Lexapro being one of them I think. I've had different anti-anxiety meds tried on me from a very young age so my memory of them all isn't great.)

I think it is worth a shot though, finding the right medicine or even just the best dosage for you is a process. If you find that type doesn't work for you there's other options out there.

I took it for a year.
I gained a lot of weight, fell asleep driving my car twice, lost my job due to emotional outbursts, and my eyes became incredibly light sensitive (which has never gone away, even being off it 2+ years)

everyone's going to react to it differently, I wanted it to work so bad that I was ignoring side effects I should not have ignored.

Journal how you feel and side effects, it'll make it easier when you follow up with doctors.

cymbalta is a pretty intense drug, so hopefully they're starting you out on a low dose?

it says you don't have to take it with food, but I got really severe gastritis when I was on it (they said it wasn't the meds, but I haven't had it since I stopped taking them) so I'd definitely eat with it, even if its just a little bit.

I also would have emotional crashes about 12 hours in, which is common so some folks do better taking two small doses in the day rather than one big one.  That's another reason journaling and tracking moods is so important.

I haven't taken it but I'm taking remeron cuz I dont respond well to ssris, also my therapist and psychiatrist seem to suspect I'm bipolar II or III (kinda doubt that but w/e) and are monitoring hypomania lol fuck me

Dont read internet reviews because ppl are more likely to report negative reactions than positive ones

Side effects are scary but remember that your psychiatrist is there to monitor you, so be honest and advocate for yourself, it's a trial and error thing even if feeling like a Guinea pig sux

If you get a bad vibe definitely switch doctors

This

I'm starting a mood log tomorrow to track my stress and anxiety triggers and also cuz of hypomania concerns

I dont really see it so I was like you know what I'll email my therapist the log every 3-4 days and you guys can decide if my "normal" periods are hypomania or w/e, she said it's a great idea and she will link it to my psychiatrist

I personally think bipolar II is overdiagnosed especially in borderline patients (which I think i have traits of) so they could also probably catch borderline moods too

I feel like a lot of people who are diagnosed bipolar actually have cyclothymia but I'm not a doctor and nobody asked me lol

But op mood logs are great and they help identify patterns

I used to log my panic attacks and limited symptom attacks and it made me realize that PMS is a trigger

Also helps you track medication side effects

You may want to ask your psychiatrist if you can send them some, many appreciate it from experience

borderline is more therapy treatment whereas bipolar is more drug treatment, yeah? pills are easier I guess for lazy doctors lol

Dude I'm just now learning that PMS is a trigger for my all-over body pain that was (likely misdiagnosed) supposedly fibromyalgia.
like I have lots of old injuries, and I finally realized the pain  with PMS was actually different pain from just my old injuries. I thought it was all the same.

woulda saved me some hell if I JOURNALED

i never had problems when i was on cymbalta, and it's one of the few meds i've taken that help make me sleepy without making me feel terrible the morning after.

i know it can be hard to talk about it, especially if what you're treating is anxiety, but your concerns are valid and medical professionals need to respect how their patients feel and be willing to have a conversation with them, that should be the bare minimum.  that being said, i would call/schedule an appointment and maybe request they start you out at a low dosage or that you try another SNRI?
