So basically people kind of ARE fragile because they get so easily influenced by what they consume. Not speaking on this as if I weren't part of it as well btw lol
I think most of us to some extend is fragile thought. I don't think it's a weakness, but rather normal human response thought (not saying you think that ofcause, just my point to get through)Ā

yes. i don't understand why ppl don't just limit their use if they can tell a website is affecting them negatively. like it's your choice what kinda content you consume. ppl act like they're just helpless and forced to take in everything that happens on every social media
because it's literally an addiction that gives you dopamineĀ
no it's not. most everything in life gives you dopamine n even if you have a social media addiction or whatever, you're not powerless against it, it's stupid to just blame social media as if you can't do anything about it.

Anyhow, I think people can appear "fragile" or easily influenced because at baseline we are overwhelmed with ideas, impressions, news, etc. on a daily basis that it doesn't take much to spin it out of control. Also, I think there's nothing wrong with being sensitive to your personal consumption of social media. It shouldn't be a shore or something that overtakes your life. If you don't have a healthy balance online, or something is off offline, then going to social media for instant gratification is scientifically a way to short-wire the gratification system in your brain. In that way (to make an example), you can obtain online friends and you will feel good about having them since you feel like you have friends. However, as soon as you're off, you will realize that those friends does not affect your physical day-to-day existence and you still got no friends irl. However, in the meantime, it can prevent you from going out seeking real friendships because online friendships feel "good enough" when they are actively present in what you do. Likes, followers, etc. goes the same way, it creates connection and validation that you don't have to seek out outside of your life as long as you obtain the results you want (which often includes growth and frequent engagement.)It fills the void and prevents you from filling it properly.)

When it comes to influence, people want to fit in. That's a basic instinct too. If you see something repeated enough times your brain is going to get used to it, maybe at a point you even think it looks nice. Suddenly, you want that for yourself because it looked pretty on the internet. To me, I view most of it the same way I view fashion houses: it is the thing that is sold (the product itself, let it be a garment, an idea, a lifestyle or a result) and it is the story we tell ourselves about which life we will live if we have those things. Often those are stories of betterment. We will be happier, feel more content, have done everything right. Except, we wouldn't. And to keep that in our minds while browsing the internet is fairly important because it's super easy to pick up patterns and tastes of people you consume a lot of content by and to think if you only had that life, people would like you as much as you like them - or something. Things simply look good online if you make the effort.

No? The internet is the collected voices of a ton of people and it brings out the worst in them. Idk about you, but having the worst things happening in the world blasted into your brain 24/7 might not be the healthiest thing for the human psyche.

The online friendships part is definitely food for thought. And yes, agreed with the rest too

Yeah I think people really overlook how addictive seemingly "innocent" things like food or social media or tv can be

sure, but often people won't even consider it a possibility that they have a choice in this. they just blame social media for being evil. idk how people are so uncritical and helpless.Ā

Though I still believe that these addictions aren't the only thing at fault, that was my point with this thread. People are also at fault for how things affect them, obviously not consciously but it's just that we are weaker than we think, we overstimate ourselves a lot.

if you truly see addiction as "big bad evil drug is ruining my life and i can't do anything about it so i shouldn't even try", idk what to tell you
