Anyhow, I think people can appear "fragile" or easily influenced because at baseline we are overwhelmed with ideas, impressions, news, etc. on a daily basis that it doesn't take much to spin it out of control. Also, I think there's nothing wrong with being sensitive to your personal consumption of social media. It shouldn't be a shore or something that overtakes your life. If you don't have a healthy balance online, or something is off offline, then going to social media for instant gratification is scientifically a way to short-wire the gratification system in your brain. In that way (to make an example), you can obtain online friends and you will feel good about having them since you feel like you have friends. However, as soon as you're off, you will realize that those friends does not affect your physical day-to-day existence and you still got no friends irl. However, in the meantime, it can prevent you from going out seeking real friendships because online friendships feel "good enough" when they are actively present in what you do. Likes, followers, etc. goes the same way, it creates connection and validation that you don't have to seek out outside of your life as long as you obtain the results you want (which often includes growth and frequent engagement.)It fills the void and prevents you from filling it properly.)
When it comes to influence, people want to fit in. That's a basic instinct too. If you see something repeated enough times your brain is going to get used to it, maybe at a point you even think it looks nice. Suddenly, you want that for yourself because it looked pretty on the internet. To me, I view most of it the same way I view fashion houses: it is the thing that is sold (the product itself, let it be a garment, an idea, a lifestyle or a result) and it is the story we tell ourselves about which life we will live if we have those things. Often those are stories of betterment. We will be happier, feel more content, have done everything right. Except, we wouldn't. And to keep that in our minds while browsing the internet is fairly important because it's super easy to pick up patterns and tastes of people you consume a lot of content by and to think if you only had that life, people would like you as much as you like them - or something. Things simply look good online if you make the effort.
