I think it's really important to recognize that there's a huge chunk of right wing voters in the US who literally only vote based on guns, jesus, and abortion (and more recently, vaccines) - that's fucking it, and then any issues beyond that they just regurgitate whatever their church pastor or fox news says, they don't actually understand it.
But no one wakes up in the morning and goes, "I'd like to be a brainwashed bigot today"
It's a lifetime of brainwashing and social conditioning through church and the public schools.
In a sense, they are victims - unfortunately they're also fucking dangerous.
God I'm fawning I dont say it enough but you're so smart
I think a lot of folks like me, who live in the bible belt/south/rural usa have experiences with folks on both sides of the political spectrum that really morphs how we view the "other" - some just get (rightfully!) angry and hateful, some want to understand, some want to leave and give up - none of us are right or wrong or less or more intelligent for how we respond. It's not so much about knowing a lot, but about the way you want to view it, and handle it if you chose to.

But back to the subject at hand:
Some studies have shown there may actually be physiological differences in self-reported liberal vs conservative brains.
The studies are small and limited but so far they've found that self-reported conservative brains, under MRI, have a more active right amygdala, where fear and negative emotions are processed, whereas the self-reported liberal brains have more grey matter in the anterior cingulate cortex where empathy, emotion, and impulse control are centered.
When I was in college we had one of the researchers speak on this in convocation and he boiled it down to the idea that the conservative brain assumes that "other" is dangerous, whereas the liberal brain is more trusting. But like I said, this study is still quite small and newish, and I do recognize that looking at the brain to determine what kind of person someone is can be ethically dubious.

In my experience , what many of you would probably call a neo-nazi vote republican in the u.s but actually, the european socialists have a lot more in common with the fascists than they do republicans. Isn't that interesting?

Most I've talked to understand it but just have different priorities. Just because they vote for something you don't think it's important doesn't mean they don't understand what they are voting for. The same thing can be said about democrats. "These dumb democrats only care about taking my hard earned money and giving it away to bums. They don't understand that we need our guns to protect ourselves" etc.
republicans totally shit themselves when they find out I'm progressive and also pro-gun lol

Also the most sad thing I've heard from folks my age in the south is that, "the alt-right stole my family"
these folks were so susceptible to brainwashing, and have become so far gone, so hopeless, that their relatives have had to give up on them - they have literally lost their families.
I can't relate to that, but it sounds fucking heartbreaking.

wdym most nazis are socialist? like what sources say that
The word nazi literally comes from national socialism, but it's a form of socialism (like, opposed to both capitalism and communism) that is exclusionary and fascist in nature.

And like, given that nazis are inherently nationalist, it's not that weird to think that they want a strong nationalist state that "takes cares of its citizens", and thus not being opposed to welfare systems and the like.
In my experience , what many of you would probably call a neo-nazi vote republican in the u.s but actually, the european socialists have a lot more in common with the fascists than they do republicans. Isn't that interesting?

Don't know that much about what they stand for in us but I'm from Finland and the Finnish "neo-nazis" vote for a party that is the most nationalist, populist and racist + they are also value religious beliefs.

I actually watched a doc about the man behind the former president of the us and how that man was helping populist politicians and parties in Europe.. basically just for gaining votes and power by demonizing immigrants.

I'm curious to know if it's religious and racist across the world

When I was working as a substitute teacher I was subbing a civics class and they had posters of all the different types of government and basically every poster that wasn't capitalism showed a scary looking dictator.

That's the shit I mean when I talk about subtle brainwashing for decades lol
