I thought like viking and old nordic religions are all good and very little associated with neo nazi. Like there's so many norwegians who's big interest in viking stuff, roleplay etc and vikingmesse, nothing with problematic idelogy to do.
That was me... Until I told vp last year ish about my thors hammers necklace and ppl was like u can't wear it ppl gonna think u r a neonazist. I wore it anyways ofc but ye, I do not have good overall views of this like realistically so I gotta stay critical

i think the heavy connection w neonazism is v american, as those of us who are nordic actually have historic and cultural ties to åsatru outside of (neo)nazism.
That can be. I'll sure look deeper into that.

It's very neat necklace, my friend use it too and it's nice looking and it's not symbol of neo nazism. But I understand that some ppl associate with neo nazism since there's some ppl who use runes/viking stuff while being nazi or sum. But it's not normal thing bt subcultural?? Viking stuff and religion is part of the history, nothing to do with nasty nazism, and people are interested in history, try roleplaying, use viking stuff in their everyday wear etc and are far from nazi. As long as one explains if someone asks. I wouldn't jump in conclution it's harmful ideology since it's such a normal part of norwegian culture and history.

it didn't disappear at all w the christianisation tho, pagan traditions, rituals n all continued on. it was paganism with a christian face. the roots of many traditions that continued up until relatively recently, even today, go way back. they very much intertwined, especially early on. the reformation was a real killer tho.
the mythology can be 'reclaimed' from the nazis sure, cuz even tho they've misused it, it has never been widely viewed/accepted as a representation of naziism.
as for the actual faith i don't think reclaim is the right word? as far as i know, even if it is in a sense still alive, there is no continous line of practice and what is practised today is an interpretation based on very limited material. n that's ok. i guess you could adapt it that way. there's nothing wrong with looking back and keeping old traditions alive as long as ur not being a total weirdo abt it u know, like hte neo nazis

I think maybe a conclusion can be that how it is perceived by others will depend on the local climate around the issue. I think there are places where it would be less successful wearing it, while other places it would be more of a historical\showcase of interests sorts of things?

Oh, yeah, I know. I probably didn't clarify it good enough in the op, but thank you for empathizing it!
Yeah, that it isn't continuous could be an issue, and it would probably be based upon what has survived the teeth of time, and the interpretations of that. I don't think in any way that this is the same "reclaiming" (in lack of better words) as is happening with Indigenous beliefs across the globe. It's not an issue that is on that level or faces those issues\consequences, and it's not really an indigenous belief either, so it would totally have a different face than that because it would be a different "type" of "reclaiming," or maybe better, "returning" to what is left of that belief through written sources and science.
