like i've definitely more than once as a kid waited in my friend's room or backyard or whatever while their family has dinner

one friend always invited me to stay at her's after school and i'd be STARVING (i was picky and weird with food so didn't have breakfast/lunch) and she'd give me ONE slice of a sausage or a glass of juice because her family would get mad if she'd give food for free asdfghjk i once tried to pay her for a snack but she refused 
this was like an upper-middle-class family so definitely not struggling financially
their fridge was always full of leftovers and snacks but guests weren't allowed even water 

but then again my other friend (almost as poor as my family) always had something to feed me every time i went there
her family always ordered a whole pizza for me if i stayed over on a friday/saturday and other snacks and soda on top of that 

so in conclusion i think this whole swedengate is only about rich people
but i haven't been to sweden so it could be different there i guess
