I died during my summer job
i worked 50 hours each week for two weeks + some more hahahah.

normally i work as a substitute teacher and can almost get as many workdays as i want bc they don’t have many substitute teachers.. also they like me bc i’m a teacher student

i’m technically still employed at my old job as a swimming instructor as well. I’ve had that job since 2011 i think. Sooo 10/11 years or something

One of the residents I think hes dying

Hes in his 60s and has down syndrome and dementia

He was in the hospital for 5 days for numerous infections

He refuses to go to the doctor and we cant force him be cause that would legally be considered a restraint

Hes getting pale, eating less, his toe is black... he wont go to the doctor to get the meds he needs cuz hes scared and doesnt understand

It's so heartbreaking

Dont get me started on how fucked up right to live laws are and everything.... if you cant understand you will die because of a disability well you can kill yourself by refusing treatment cuz it's in your rights... yet if you function cognitively and you're dying of a terminal illness most states wont provide assisted suicide... absolute madness

I had to take a sex offender training course (essentially a seminar) today

Clarification for those wondering why:

I work with a population that's at risk of sexually inappropriate  behaviors and/or offenses (developmentally disabled). The company I'm employed in actually houses registered offenders, tho I dont work there.

all I could think of was:

i am working this summer, first time having a summer job where i work almost full time and it's a job where you have to use your brain and solve issues etc (legal ones).

it's tiring and people are dumb.

considering quitting after the summer but that's not what i promised them when i applied (said i could work during the christmas break and they also said that they wanted me to show up at work around 1-2 times per week during my studies when they start again), so have to try and get out of here smootly to not ruin the contact i have made. not 100% sure if i want to quit but it feels like the smart thing to do... but also slightly shitty towards my boss and they will agree to the fact

What a sweet deal. In the US you do not get paid time off. It's not uncommon for teachers to work a summer job for that reason

Not to mention all the out-of-pocket supplies (I mean you can get a tax write off but still) and mass amounts of debt for a salary around $40-60k?

Public school systems in the us are fucked

Thats the problem with contracts

I have a cna (certified nursing assistant) certificate. Its nothing fancy or intensive, it's just a 6 week course lol. I only got it cuz the company I wanted to work for pays CNAs more even tho I'm technically a direct support professional (dsp) which is a fancy way of saying caregiver for the disabled. Also if I wanted to puruse home health a CNA would be an entryway

I didn't want to pay for mine, so I went through a company that trains you in 3 weeks and then contracts you to work for 6 months after passing the test. I failed mine and therefore didnt get the job. I'm glad cuz I realized nursing home work isnt for me. It would of sucked to be contracted to a job I would of hated.

Also I paid only $97 to retake the exam. Would of paid $1200 if I went to school for it. I think I won.
