yeah, the dialect is a lot
I used to understand it quite well ages ago when I was watching a lot of bavarian theatre programs on television (because I was edgy like that) but ever since I'm not actively watching that I don't understand it that well anymore (it's very much like having very basic skills in a language and getting what someone says out of context and not because you understand them)
I don't understand SĂ€chsich or whatever fresh hell they speak in northern germany. It's hard to understand my aunt who lives on the coast.
sÀchsisch I can't take serious
it just sounds like someone is terribly thick
That's the northern accent, Saxonian?

north east
north north where I live, they speak "platt" (which is in fact every form of dialect, platt, but the other ones also have regional names and I don't think the ones around here have a specific name? like occasionally you have the disctinction of Hamburger Platt, which is specifically the dialect in Hamburg, but it's still very similar to other northern regions (like Schleswig-Holstein)

oh you have Friesisch, which is what they speak in Friesland, which is close to what they speak in Hamburg
but when someone says SĂ€chsisch, that's very specifically something spoken in the Bundesland Sachsen and it's such a peculiar dialect

this is SĂ€chsisch

and this is old people in Hamburg cussing (well, "cussing", stronger than friendly language)

there's a few really fun sketches out there that show the different dialects and all
it's definitely an intersting subject, but damn is it a varied one
nothing changes more than language

okay, Hamburg I personally think to be kinda easy? but also I've been told often enough that my luxembourgish makes me sound like I'm from northern Germany (which is weird since it has more similarities with Kölsch and SaarlÀndisch and Trierisch - basically anything in the MoselfrÀnkisch region)

that does seem exciting! language for me is just a casual interest, I could never pursue it deeper or I'd just get lost, but definitely feel free to share any new and fun things you find in a thread, I really like language talks
