I say, so he won't get mad and annoy you or idk bother you more about it, be upfront about it, as much as it can be hard just be done with it and tell him that with enough planning you would've liked to loved it but it's 4 hours away and you have work, it's just not possible, and you won't be driving 4 hours for something not serious or "fun"
