folks like to separate the things, but you can't separate them. 
compassion for addiction and mental illness shouldn't come with stipulations that someone look and act "the right way" for recovery.

when we were younger, my friend had a teacher in 4th grade who had taught him at her previous school
and in middle school I had a friend whos mom was one of the folks working the court case where he sued his mother

Yeah my friend has been working in recovery since graduating college and she said checking arrest records and obituaries when her clients didn't show was just part of the daily routine
