that I'm bright, because I wear glasses
(that's not a guess, that's been said to me on multiple occasions, because having shitpoor vision apprently still is considered a gauge for intelligence)
also people have been assuming I'm a lesbian since I was 12, so there's that
Actual studies actually show that near sighted people on average is more intelligent than the rest of the population, so there's some truth to it. It can be discussed whether near sightedness is a symptom of being clever (due to reading many books) or whether there's any correlation at all of course.
I'd guess the former, considering that was the reason for most near sighted people back in ye olden days
like, sure, other people got troubled vision as well, but if they weren't scholars or such, it didn't matter to be able to see perfectly well and they often didn't have the means
so we associate glasses with rich and thus educated people
but damaging your eyes due to improper reading techniques at a young age is actually damaging if you already have a genetic predisposition to poor vision
but considering near-sighted ness is in oversimplified and short the fact that your eye is "too big" for correct light refraction, I kinda struggle to see how eye size is linked intelligence
oh, but maybe it's also because people with poor vision usually don't do wild things, especially kids with glasses often get told to rather read than climb trees because glasses are expensive
I feel like there is more reasons like this behind it rather than actual intellectual difference
Yeah. I don't know what is the reason behind it, but it also makes sense if there's something cultural behind it (children with glasses being more careful and doing less wild activities)
