Good luck on your new journey!

I didn’t quit the company but I recently transferred to another group home after 6 1/2 months (7 months in the company)

I’ll talk more later when I have time but you’re not the only one who is forced to leave due to a toxic culture

This is the story all about how

so I work for a non profit that provides services for developmentally disabled people. I was working in a group home that serviced mostly middle aged and seniors, I think 3 there had dementia? The exception was a mid 30s woman with a very rough history and some serious mental health and behavioral problems. She has a history of making false sexual allegations against people
happened to me in just shy of 4 months twice in a week.

I stupidly two weeks ago decided to assist her in the bath and I really had to pee and asked if she was cool with that since the toilet was there and she said yes and ended up reporting it. I learned from that mistake but since she has admitted to wanting to get me fired and has made false claims before I just can’t work there  anymore and imo even if I hadn’t made that mistake it was only a matter of time as I was her target. during the investigation I put in a transfer request and they completely agreed it was the best for my livelihood.

I planned to stay for at least a year but there was also a very petty mean girl culture
it’s so hard to leave but it really is for the best. I can get into the mean girl drama more tomorrow if you want.

about to head out for my third day at my new position

@Emiliaaaaaaa

toxic work culture:

My supervisor was a real Karen. I remember her telling a confused, agitated dementia client she was “just awful.” Yes, she also fractured her foot and is confused as to why she has to wear a foot brace and gait belt. She’s frustrated and scared. Go easy on her. She also made another girl cry because she yelled at her saying she was weaseling on her exercises and lying about doing them. Come to find out she wouldn’t assist because she was too scared and wanted pt to do them. So either hire more PT sessions or get off your lazy ass and stop adding embroidery patterns to your Etsy cart on company time. I’ve heard rumors of abuse and I believe it. Really regret not reporting her ass.

There was an issue of passively aggressively singling out staff during meetings. I will never forget when I asked if I could make a chilled vegetable soup for dinner cuz it was 90 degrees (SRRY I’m American) and heat can trigger seizures. She approved it, they didn’t like it. NBD right? Well I ask if I can help with menu planning and she straight up says that I need to cook what the residents like and not make everything vegan. Lol wut?

next meeting I see a paper that says “we cook for consumers, not staff.” She discusses this and looks directly at me and says, “yeah that soup? I think (name redacted) made that with you cuz she wanted attention.” Uh bs. It was an experiment, I wasn’t forcing anything, they were willing to try, that it wasn’t a success means I’ll try something else. Plus I put dairy ranch on their salad that night so obviously you didn’t understand what I was trying to do. Plus you approved it and you’re putting all blame on me? Best part- they served meatless Pattie’s months later lmfao.

It gets better. Manager and supervisor say  we need to work on reducing their sweet consumption and serve healthier meals (which was my goal) in the next meeting. Then what do they do? Continue to buy chips, cakes, candy and ice cream on sale. Good job. Several people there are already pre diabetic, that’s straight up neglect imo.

Additionally lots of jealousy, lots of gossip, acting nice to your face then talking shit or tattle telling to people. Assholes being lazy and demanding certain tasks (often the easiest) instead of working as a team. Pictures of snack dishes being left behind taken without my permission when no one even told me dishes were expected to all be done by 7.

horrible. Glad you and I moved onto something better

Whoops wrote a giant essay

tl;dr: worked with lazy people who didn’t work as a team, hogged easy tasks, and talked shit behind your back instead of providing constructive criticism. Junk food was constantly being brought in to overweight pre diabetics that they didn’t request. Supervisor was nasty to certain clients and passively aggressively called out staff in front of everyone at meetings and spent more time browsing Etsy than doing her job.

Also just hypocritical and inconsistent as hell. Like manager and supervisor weren’t on the same page, and I work in a field where consistency is key.

ooooh boy this was just therapy for me lol
