Ikea is known to source illegally and in old growth forests which are mostly protected areas but otherwise yes. Everything makes an impact and the issue there is rly how big is acceptable

Buying electronics with cameras in them from China and other weird websites also have the chance of additional monitoring if they connect to the internet. We had a government official out talking about the issues of a digitalized society, and she said they had more than one case of buying security cameras for buildings they then opened up at some point only to find additional monitoring they didn't know what we're for or who used. Just food for thought.

The netflix docu wood industry a businesses against nature is all about it. Also, ye if wood is sustainable in any case is for the most part a question of speed. Or slowness because it has to regenerate and wood grows slow.

Still scary though.
I honestly loved my Huawei until I visited China with it. I never got rid of the weird commercials and texts it decided I needed to receive after I had been in the country.

Don't Apple scan your pictures in your albums now though? Not that much better tbh

I've never had apple so I don't know. But if they have it, I'm sure Google isn't far behind.

CSAM, but only on iCloud apparently.
Still though. It's good looking at what you consume and how you consume stuff. Sometimes cheap is good, sometimes cheap means you're selling something else or risking something, like your health, due to shortcuts in production.

Bc they don't believe in transparency. And well ikea is committed to using large amounts of plastic in any future as well and they aren't shy about it. What could we expect. But ye I still go to ikea when I need something I can't find elsewhere. I do indeed like some of their stuff, esp their storage boxes for food in stainless steel and glass w wood lids. Idk when ill need something ikea again tho. Maybe when i move to a place of my out that isn't student housing

i'm not sure how exactly they think these things can b stopped, esp on the mass scale stores with many cases being individual sellers (i only have experience w ebay)
they prolly have some semi automated systems to keep out absolutely horrendous stuff, but takedown reports are usually handled by ppl who couldn't possibly find and eliminate all the listings in a day lmao. doing something drastic like banning specific countries wouldn't work either bc i know for a fact that some shady sellers are marking themselves as european to avoid taxes n shit. i usually only buy from european sellers anyway bc of tax reasons, but yeah. eu's gonna have to figure something magical if they wanna stop this entirely haha
