oh ofc it was the same to see a white wealthy person and a black wealthy person lmfao
not saying they were - just saying that ur view of black ppl never reaching any morsel of success before modern times is factually wrong
more like black people through out history had way more barriers before reaching sucess, like slavery ?
have i said that they dont have? of course black people are subject to racism. but pretending like black people have never amounted to something before the holy year of 1960 is just as racist. especially when you use it as an excuse to not have to see gasp black people in the media you consume. especially when the only reality and history you want to allow black people to have is that of suffering and opression. we cant tell the story of succesfull black communities and black people in europe in early modern history, because the only important thing about black people were their slavery.

for further reading on the subject i reccomend
The French Revolution. Recent debates andnew Controversies by Gary Kates, esp Dubois' chapter
Inventing Human Rights by Lynn Hunt
the previously mentioned The Enlightenment by Dorinda Outram

1. you really have not even read what my opinion was about the fake-representation
2. when black people have been suffering a lot through out history because of racism, its more important to me and probably to most reasonable people that we should know about that and actually learn how to unlearn racism
3. ofc u can talk about maybe some black people who have been succesful, but trying to portray as that was the reality for the majority of black people in older times, and may i even say right now, is just pretending that its the normal thing

i personally don't think historical accuracy is all that important in film tbh. People are waaaaay to be obsessed with things being 'realistic' in that sense.

but anyway i think there has been enough miserable movies representing poc already especially slave movies and shit.
falseful but happy represation might be actually welcome?
but i can’t say for sure because i’m not a person of colour, just guessing. Everyone is free to correct me...

maybe, but also u have fictional tv series like game of thrones which is a good platform for diversity, where u are not limited by history or anything

what genre is game of thrones even, fantasy??

depends on the genre but thb, a 100% white male main character movie is seldomly historically correct

also no one complains about no armpit hair and no bad teeth and skin in those kind of movies

the series hollywood is a great example of how you deal with those issues, everyone knows that the story couldn't have happened like that but honestly in a better world it would have and isn't that what storiesare about?
that divergence makes watching it bitter sweet

if anyone wants to see a film whose central theme revolves around how blackness is portrayed in Hollywood films (especially black women), you should watch Cheryl Dunye's The Watermelon Woman!
