It makes it sound like the issue is the word, and it's not, it's the intention behind the word. It's the attitudes of the people who uses the words and the contexts in which they are used. Going back and "changing" things to fit with the narrative of present day is problematic as it interferes with source material which can give us insights about the past further into the future. If we keep trying to delete history rather than actually learn from it and use the past as a tool to properly educate people it's pointless to do anything then it's just bound to end up the same way all the time. I would classify several of my biological family members as racist to some degree, they're not using the politically incorrect words frequently to my knowledge, the other things they say are significantly more problematic than the words themselves.

You're contradicting yourself. If bullying isn't okay than neither is name calling. It's unacceptable across the board in that case so there's no need to argue what is worse.
