Is passivity an underrated quality?

I think it's underrated in that ppl consider it to be automatically a bad thing, and ppl associate it with things like shyness and quietness which are also treated as negative qualities. But imo it's a neutral thing, it can be bad or good depending on the situation.

I agree. Though its cultural, read quietness is more valued in asia, idk how true that is tho, didnt fact check the claim

I know I’m saying u have to voice ur opinion in society or u seem weak and afraid , everyone wants to be seen as strong so they fight even if it can be a waste of time
Idk, not having to voice an opinion (sometimes existing is seen as such a thing) often comes from privilege, you have to be able to afford not having an opinion on things
Yes which is why we should always say our opinion
but what about situations where you're arguing w someone who believes in blatantly wrong conspiracy theories n stuff? when evidence shows people's minds can't be changed even w facts and evidence. at a certain point isn't participating in the discussing giving weight to what they say?

Why should having no opinion be seen as a weakness? I'd argue otherwise, though I think it would depend on the context. Sometimes it can be, but is it always?
Bc then ppl think ur hiding ur opinion out of fear even if u are just neutral
Maybe people need to stop jumping to conclusions. I agree that holding back opinions out of fear can be harmful but maybe ask instead of assume. Also sometimes it's more effective to work behind the scenes and keep it secret. If you voice ur opinion and ppl catch on they'll try to suppress your actions. Doesnt seem like many people consider that
Mhm   sometimes it’s smart   to be passive

I agree that it's bad praxis to hold back opinions out of fear. However in some situations passivity works in your favor whereas assertiveness works against you.

Some of ya'll in this thread who disagree really need to read Henry David Thoreau's essay on civil disobedience

Passive resistance isn't the only tool that should be utilized, as sometimes it's not strong enough to fight the power. Sometimes it's far stronger than taking direct action tho. It really depends

I thought of something else such as being passive in order to survive.

Do u think that's a good or bad thing? I definitely think that is a benefit of passivity, unless you dont allow it to trap you in an abusive setting

I think in some situations passivity steals power away from people who dont deserve it

I think it can be good like... What if I was hanging out with you and Heather, we rolled up on Bianca and y'all just shot her unexpectedly and without reason. How do I know the same won't happen to me if I speak up in the moment?
My passive ass would be mentally praying to make it to safety so I could turn y'all in tho lol

I think this is a good point. Plus even if you don't believe in passivity, you have to admit there are some times when confrontation isn't gonna work out in your favor
