dont think it should be interpreted as literally as "chose to be happy" and instantly u r but like. chose to make happier decisions. happier choices. its not either or. its a sliding scale of bad to good
Perhaps "better" would be an even better term than happier
no i think they mean different things

a good choice doesnt necessarily make u happy and vice versa

better is certainly the better term for like, long term happiness, but short term they dont necessarily mean the same thing
hmmm I see fair point

You can't be happy on command. You can choose to stay positive, but that's not happiness.

she is actually making the opposite point she thinks shes making at the end of the video here lmao

'i wouldnt turn the lights on i would light a candle i wouldnt take my dog for a walk' like girl you made those choices and those choices kept you depressed. if you made healthy choices your brain would get healthier. shes literally saying that she needed to chose to be happy. she just doesnt like the way older people SAY it to her.

personally I have stopped striving to be 'happy' because I almost feel like its an unachievable concept. people put 'happiness' on this pedestal and it ends up becoming intimidating and revered. I strive for peace and content. I read something someone wrote once how they stopped trying to be happy, and instead tried to be less sad, and it completely changed the way I thought

its not the most helpful thing to say to a depressed person actually its frustrating to hear that happiness is a choice. what someone really depressed needs to hear needs to be something much smaller and more managable than just 'chose to be happy' what a really sick person needs to hear is 'do one thing for yourself today that will make you feel joy. it can be small. it can be going to starbucks to get a coffee' and then once shes used to doing that one thing for herself- shell start to make more healthy choices.

so like its true but from the perspective of someone who wants to die its just too unmanageable and huge to even consider.
