i've never loved my name or felt it fit me, but i've also never been able to get a nickname or even thought about changing my real name. i even have a double first name, and the second name i like a lot more, but i just haven't even gone through with trying to make that my name, which i honestly should have, especially when i moved to the uk... because when 99% of my classmates are not scandinavian, you can probably imagine how many different versions of solveig i have gotten. i was very close to making my second name, helene, my preferred name when i moved, but somehow it just never happened. and i'm graduating in a month, so too late now
I can tell you, it's never too late
I got the official name change... a year before graduating high school?
If you truly feel better with that name, do it, I can't really explain how good I felt, almost like this weight my first name gave me was lifted? yeah.
ah, i'm happy for you!
for me it's more like, i like the name solveig helene (and some family members still uses both when talking to or about me) but it's just so long, so when i was about 10 i started trying to make people call me just solveig because it was the first of the two names, so even though i didn't
love it, it felt more natural to choose that one. my name is a family name, which i think is very special, so i don't wanna formally change it, i just... have never really connected with the name solveig on it's own. i do regret not changing it to helene when i moved to the uk tho because no one can pronounce solveig properly. what i meant with it being too late is that i've lived here for three years now, but in a month i'll move away from this country and never see most of these people again, so it feels a bit unnecessary to try to make them call me by a different name now when it's only five weeks left of our degree.
but i am tempted to try to make people call me helene wherever i end up next, and like try to identify with that name instead because i think it's a beautiful name on its own as well as a part of my double name
oooo I see how it is, then our cases are a tad bit more similar
