I've seen some of them and honestly I can't with movies in black and white, first of all I get a major headache from them no matter what and I don't know what that's about but it is what it is, and secondly honestly acting used to be so fucking shit no matter what so old movies are bad by default because it's just not remotely credible to me. 
Also the fact that modern times by Chaplin is considered pretty much the peak in the industry makes me just.. fuck movies I hate them now. 
Oh I love black and white movies and silent movies - but not because they're black and white, or silent. Those things are not genres lol. There's plenty of old movies out there that are absolute SHIT.
Thing is, film back then wasn't stable, a lot of movies are lost forever, without a trace.
Just because something exists, doesn't mean its good - it simply means it SURVIVED.
When watching old movies, it helps to be familiar with the times, and if you're not into history they may not be for you and that's ok.
Tbh tho you should read about Charlie Chaplin and his radical politics bc he's literally one of my heroes.
I often find I enjoy the history more than the actual movies themselves, tho I do still love them.

I especially like old movies on the fringe, ones that didn't make it into "big hollywood" that bucked the censors. Love it.

I was about to become murderous when I looked at the British list because I couldn't find Trainspotting but luckily it was there, in the top 10. Rightfully so. But like.. Sure maybe American movies used to be better before compared to other countries' movies. But the rest of the world has come a long way since 1960. In my lifetime I've seen that Norwegian movies are in fact becoming watchable which is a massive leap forward because the old ones is just.. I have nothing nice to say about it. 
I don't fuck with top 10 or top 100 lists because they're too restrictive.

"1001 movies to watch before you die" is alright, tho. Its the only list I fuck with.
