I quit In November of 17 after smoking two packs a day for ten years. Stayed on the patch for like five months tho.

Congrats on breaking out of
nicotine prison!!

I smoke and always get lectured
by my peers because I work in oncology.
I often hear, “Lo, this guy smoked for 20 years
and has stage 3 lung ca…”
My response?
I find a patient that has never smoked
or consumed alcohol, yet still, has the same dx
Even tho death and disease
is common to me
It doesn’t scare a bitch enough
to stop just yet

I have the capacity to quit
because I don’t smoke
the entire time I’m working
nor when I’m sick.

I enjoy smoking
and sometimes I wonder
if I would finally gain weight if I stopped
but it’s just a mere thought lol

Has consequences like cancer for some I guess, but its harder to quit I think cus its not immediate consequences, and it doesn't happen to most ppl probably either. Probably the most annoying thing I can think of it yellow fingers and shortness of breath easy
exactly

the smell and the cost and my yellowing teeth and receding gums and few grey hairs and shortness of breath suck

also p sure I fucked up my circulation lol cuz my hands and feet are cold all the damn time

but like hey unlike drinking where I actually almost went to jail and ruined relationships and made a fool out of myself and almost lost jobs this is shit I can live with lol
Yes same, blue fingers and toes, not good, but it is what it is. Im scared of my teeth falling out too lol but I don't think its that common.

I don't know if its the nicotine or the other stuff in cigs that do this tho, but I guess ur skin in general can get pretty ugly looking skin in ur face (and other places from it). If I stop using nicotine and my skin doesn't look a thousand times better I will be mad lol

yes same tho, fucked up a lot when drinking, not with jobs, but being embarrassingly drunk at school, knocking at someones (my friend who doesn't even live there most of the time, he wasn't even there)porch door at like 3 am for no reason, calling a dude I never even talk to like a thousand times, making ppl mad, everything bad (all this while blackout drunk so I can only remember like 1 second here n there). I still drink, but I tend to control myself more now, and choose wisely where and with who I drink, cus it can so easily fuck up my life fr, not even in the long run, just in the short run while actually being drunk I can act rlly crazy and then I just,,,,,,, anxiety anxiety anxiety
my fingers were white once and I freaked out and it's when I realized the consequences this is having on my circulation for real

did I stop? nah

I thought it was the carcinogens and not the nicotine that caused the ill effects? idk I'm no expert

my gran tho... 64, using inhalers, pre stroke, still smoking, we smoke together, makes me kinda want to quit, i feel like an ass smoking with her while she's on her way to early death

@ouch I don't even wanna think about my heavy drinking days

fucking glad that's behind me

I enjoy regular beer and occasional margaritas but I scaled it way the fuck back lol, I absolutely had to, it was no longer enjoyable anyway

I think that's the difference, I still enjoy smoking as much as I did when I started

kinda sounds like how I quit self harm @Delusion1111111

I was literally just... done, just stopped, didn't plan to, didn't mean to, just stopped. tired of it. it was immature and really really dumb.

if I could only do that with cigs tbh
Oh same actually, wasn't even a conscious decision, I just stopped and never lly started again, cus it just got more and more rare, and now I feel kind of nauseous when I think abt doing it
I started at 13

it was really at it's peak from age 14-17, lessened around 18 but was still a common occurrence

it's lessened since my twenties, still did it but not as often, I haven't done it like... well I burned myself a year 1/2 ago, I cut for the last time in 3 years and it just... quit working I guess, it's just not worth it to me

idk I honestly just grew out of it. And that's what sux, I have scars to remind me of something I no longer do til I die lol

Idek the last time I’ve worked
at the hospital..but it was definitely
before COVID

Anyway, hospital is smoke free
and one has to basically hike off
the property to enjoy a cigarette
too much effort and makes me
glad that I can go without during work
