I find it interesting that plastic surgery is believed to be solely based in insecurity. What about trans people using plastic surgery to pass? What about people who use it as a form of body modification? If I get a tattoo or dye my hair does that mean I'm dissatisfied w/ my body? Hell, what about plastic surgery for medical reasons?

Also just because you struggle with something doesnt mean you cant condemn it. Saying people shouldn't is an appeal to hypocrisy.

the difference between a cosmetic surgery and body modifications (lets say piercings and tattoos) is that you can actually reverse body modifications, and it most of the times wont have much of a problem, meanwhile cosmetic surgery will stay there

n plastic surgery for medical reasons, as i stated before, is different to cosmetic surgeries

feel free to condemn me for getting a breast reduction in the hopefully near future, but literally nothing aside from money troubles is gonna keep me from getting it. and its not body dysphoria, it's not physical pain caused by size and weight. it's just. i dont want my boobs. simple as that.

and because i want to love my body, but i cant with the size of these things.

Whats the difference between plastic surgery and: makeup, altering ur weight, working out to get more muscles (not for health necessarily? Boys that are obsessed with working out cus they r so tiny for example), dying ur hair, curling or straightening ur hair, wearing colored contacts, acrylics, wigs, etc etc

this is honestly dangerous and judgmental thinking. before i turned vegetarian i preached vegetarianism.
you can follow the belief of body positivity but still make changes to your appearance. it's like saying you cant use makeup for the cosmetics either

there are also many people who did make drastic changes to their appearance that deeply regret it. do they not get to preach body positivity? because of some dumb decisions they made when they were younger? cause i personally think their opinions on the matter of body positivity is very important cause they know what its like to want something else and actually do something about, something most of us can only dream of
still, you can not preach about something you dont follow. its hypocritical, imo

n its totally different to preach about body positivity and talk abt something you regret, in this case plastic surgeries and encouraging others to love themselves for who they are, than someone who is constantly (?) getting plastic surgeries
"my point is that. you can strive to improve your own image without condemning the one you already have, right? like you can get a nose job without hating your nose. you just want a different nose. and you wouldnt mind keeping your old nose but you had the money and opportunity to get a nose job so you did. thats my stance anyway"

did you read this? cause this sums up my thoughts basically. feel free to disagree obviously
i wouldnt get why changing something you dont hate abt yourself; but if u care to give me an insight?

I think people can do with themselves whatever the fuck they want.

Agree on the part where they should not tell others what to do.

Isnt it interesting that the idea of altering your body automatically means suffering or dissatisfaction, not art or celebration or decoration?

Not that plastic surgery can be used as a mean to alleviate suffering, ofc it can, but its weird that is the first thing that comes to mind.

Disintegration had a great point. I never thought of it like that. Maybe the real problem is the obsession with the human body, even if its meant to be spun in a positive light.

actually I get it. It's like... you like both blonde and dark hair. Just because you dye it, doesn't make you hate the other color any less.

What if I work out n I get  a skinnier waist n a bigger butt, can't I b body positive anymore. If im doing something naturally, but still achieving the same outcome as plastic surgery would have ?

i mean........... i do think its silly pretending that individual choices arent influenced by society/the collective and also that they dont influence society/the collective . n it is good to b aware and mindful of that. saying 'ppl can do what they want' isnt very helpful in mi opinion
