Does your family have any nicknames for you and if so
what are they?

What do you like most about yourself?

If you had to cut off all communication with 1 family member
for 5 years, who would it be and why?

What’s your favorite joke?

What has happened to you that made
you a stronger person?

apologies if you’ve been asked these before

how do you feel about Spongebob? I ask because I'm 6 months your junior, and I feel the thoughts of people who grew up on it says a lot about them as people. That shit literally raised me. I have vivid memories of watching promos for the premiere. It was the first show I watched every new episode of in full as it was happening. Out of everything I grew up with it ignites the most nostalgia in me.  I realized my hatred of everything post-movie was because I was getting older and wasn't entirely "cuz the show sux now."

Every generation has their thing that literally shaped them and defined their culture as youths. The thing that was like nothing else at the time. Older millennials have The Ren and Stimpy Show. Core Gen Z was blessed with Adventure Time. I'm jealous of both but they'll never know what it was like to be the perfect age to grow up with Spongebob when it was fresh and burgeoning. I'm proud that was my thing.

Yes, I'm very passionate about a silly sea sponge. The Spongebob Squarepants Movie tee-shirt that poptarts was promoting in '04 that my mom gave me (she got it from a girl at a bar) is my one of my most prized possessions and as a childfree person I rewatch the first 3 seasons at least once a year. thanks 4 coming 2 my ted talk
If you had asked me 23 years ago when Spongebob aired if I thought it was going to become one of the most memorable pieces of media that represented my entire generation, I wouldn't have even entertained the idea. Hah.
That being said, I grew up just super obnoxiously oppositional to anything pop culture so I acted like I didn't like spongebob, but if it was on I'd watch it - though I wouldn't go out of my way to catch it. But I've really come to appreciate it as an adult, it's incredibly unique, well written, and clever, at least early on. I don't remember when I stopped watching new episodes. But chances are you hated it post-movie because after that movie, most of the original writers left.

but yeah spongebob is great but I was definitely more of one of the really annoying invader zim hot topic kids

more qs 4 u:

1) do you plan to have children in the future?

2) how do you get over the fear of being too old to accomplish your goals and dreams? of feeling like you've wasted your life, you can't do something because of your age, that it's too late, time is running out, ect? Like I really regret not getting into freelance writing when I was younger. Or submitting any writing at all. Because I've entertained the idea of mental health blogging as a side hustle but like shit I'm almost 28, I've never had any experience with publishing articles or having popular blogs and stuff, like is it too late and a waste of time to even try? you know, stuff like that. i think why I like you is you don't seem to stress about your age and kinda embrace it. It's my biggest insecurity.

3)  Do you feel like a millennial? I feel on the cusp of milleninal and gen z but my 20 y/o coworker doesn't agree I'm too old to be a cusper HAHAHA
1. No, I can't really picture myself as a parent.

2. So all I've ever done, all I've ever been good at, worth a damn at, has been manual labor. Farming, warehouse work, commercial kitchen work, etc. And I'll tell ya, nothing makes you reassess what you can and want to pursue like having the only thing you've ever done ripped out from under you.

I always thought because I never studied art officially, no one would take me seriously, no one would think anything I had to say was worth listening to, so I decided I I wanted to take a course with The Royal School of Needlework, and they were going to have a course in Louisville, but when I saw the sheer cost of it (we're talking like, thousands of dollars) I got angry. Not angry just because I couldn't afford it, but angry because it was so culturally important, but so inaccessible. And I was like "fuck this, I'll start my own school" - and I did.

But even when I started having my creative pursuits funded, I still felt like I'd somehow tricked them into thinking I was better and more committed than I could really be. But then, checks kept coming, local support came in, folks (today!) have offered to sponsor my students, the news reached out a while back - when folks were taking me more seriously than I was taking myself I realized I always had good ideas, I always made good art, and I always had important things to say.

"A career in the arts is like a hitchhiking trip: All you need is one person to say 'Get in' and off you go." -John Waters

3. I absolutely do feel like a millennial, I don't know if its because of where I grew up, or, because my mom was so young that I experienced the tail end of her own childhood. But I definitely identify with the generation.

- Growing up they called me pickle-head, or the bottomless pit. Because I loved pickles, and also couldn't read when my body was full so I just ate everything I could get my hands on.

- I like my ability and desire to be self reflective, even at the risk of hurting my own feelings, I think I'm very willing to be wrong and it makes me a better version of myself.

- My family isn't very close, I actually don't talk to many of my relatives at all despite nothing bad ever happening.

- I can't think of a specific joke, but I do like it when clowns make me balloon-dicks without me asking.

- I guess that depends on how we're going to define strength. Having my mom committed made me a lot harder, and more able to turn off my own emotions in order to take care of business. But if we don't define strength by being able to simply not feel, then I'd have to say kicking out my FUCKING BUM OF A ROOMMATE.

its been so long since I made this thread that I don't know what I've answered before either, lol

I was hooked from day one. There really was nothing like it at the time. You can see the ren and stimpy and rocko moderns life influences for sure, but as you said it was unique. Most surrealist kids shows were mean spirited and dark. spongebob was so good natured as a contrast.

I can tell who is late millenial and who is gen z based on their view of post movie episodes. My sister (gen z) is forgiving of seasons four and five.

Also I came to invader zim late. I watched it until dark harvest, which swore me off the show cuz it terrified 7 year old me. It wasnt until my 7th grade scene phase that I got into it and I appreciate it now. So like opposite experiences

Lmfao the guy I'm interested in is only 2 or 3 years younger than me so if we move beyond friendship territory we will be fine

As a retail worker I work with a lot of gen z, so spongebob is how I bond with them! This girl who is 7 1/2 years younger than me... she never saw dying for pie! She watched the episode and texted me her reaction to the ending... amazing

I feel like millenials and zoomers bonding over spongebob is to gen x and millenials bonding over simpsons

you know what my absolute fucking favorite show was when I was little?
The Wild Thornberrys
I lived in Florida and I remember them bringing the model vehicle of their RV to different grocery stores and letting kids climb all up on and in it, with folks dressed as characters taking photos like in the early days to promote the new show
I wonder if mom still has my fake "passport" that they made with a polaroid of me and a character haha
