"happiness is a choice"

I don't trust people who look happy and cheery all the time either. That's the type of person you discover hanging from the ceiling one day. Nicest person I knew, always smiling, always active...

depression is lifelong. it can be TREATED, but that can mean long term therapy, meds, etc. the goal of therapy isn't to cure depression but to help ppl learn good coping skills & better behavioral patterns to manage depression, as well as medication & sorting through the reason someone has depression.
depression =/= being depressed. to meet the criteria of depression, u need to have at least 6 months of ongoing symptoms
& mental illness is something that can change ur brain permanently. so trying to fix urself & function like a normal person for someone w severe mental illnesses (even "just depression" cuz i see some people act like it's not "serious enough" ) is not the same as someone without

i mean no clinical depression is not always chronic. it can be but it isnt always lifelong.

are you thinking of situational depression? bc depression is chronic. as far as i know it's lifelong but i'm not an expert or anything. but i do know for sure it's chronic

Happiness is enjoying the structure you need in your life in order to function.

I mean, I could choose to be weak and cry over everything or just accept reality as it is and be happy about small things like oh today my plants saw sunlight for 2 seconds that's nice now I'm happy

also this is not necessarily accurate at all what youre saying about depression being something you get over. depression can be chronic. i still have depression. i've learned how to live with it and find joy in my life despite depression trying to hold me back.
I know? haha, but it's not either untrue that you can get over a depression.
im still wondering what mental illnesses cause a person to become unable to ever feel happiness?
I think you misunderstood me, I never stated that actually. I just found it too "easy" (that feels very wrong to say, because it definitely isn't) to use a mental illness that you can over, as an argument for happiness is a choice. At least that is how I understood ur comment, that you got over your depression, but I misunderstood that.

you're not correct about this or youre confused about terminology. there are multiple kinds of clinical depression and they are not all chronic. you can be diagnosed with depression during a single episode during your lifetime.
