depression is lifelong. it can be TREATED, but that can mean long term therapy, meds, etc. the goal of therapy isn't to cure depression but to help ppl learn good coping skills & better behavioral patterns to manage depression, as well as medication & sorting through the reason someone has depression.
depression =/= being depressed. to meet the criteria of depression, u need to have at least 6 months of ongoing symptoms
& mental illness is something that can change ur brain permanently. so trying to fix urself & function like a normal person for someone w severe mental illnesses (even "just depression" cuz i see some people act like it's not "serious enough" ) is not the same as someone without
at no point in your original statement did you specify what type of depression you were talking about so this comes across as being very misleading because there are indeed forms of depression that are not chronic.
oh ok you're right, sorry about that! i should've clarified 😞😞😞 i thought usually when ppl talk about depression they mean mdd but my perspective is someone who's always had mdd so that's prolly just me. i'll be more clear in the future

i- that is so privileged to say too????
@kalypso  um no that's not what i meant. my point is, yes obviously everyone has the choice to do anything, like quit school, or travel, or be happy for example. but just because there's a choice does not mean that it's viable. it's like having a gun against your head. yes you have the freedom to choose to run, but is that really a choice when the outcome is death?

'happiness is a choice' is factually true, but that choice is often hard or impossible to make because of our circumstances. saying 'happiness is a choice' in reaction to someone who is depressed or going through a rough time is an extremely dismissive way of judging someone.

also happiness is overrated. you cannot be happy all the time, happiness is an emotion, not a state of mind. however, you can be fulfilled in life. you can have good and bad days and still don't think the world is ending, still appreciate life. work toward a life of being content, not happy.

lol and then u use travel as an example, when im talking capitalism S:
but i know what u mean with choice, but I just don't agree that life is that simply with everything, wish it was doe, would probably make happiness a choice then

idk how my point has to do with capitalism? also my point is literally that life is not that simple, which makes happiness being a choice also not that simple. idk why you keep trying to misrepresent me

it's a stupid thing to say, overly simplistic and ppl who say that are mostly privileged people who haven't had to struggle the way some people do. attitude matters and obviously you have to do things to improve your situation in order to feel better but you can't just snap your fingers and choose to not have an illness or shitty circumstances in life

don't try to argue with me about this i don't care if you disagree, you're allowed to have your opinion and i'm allowed to have mine, i don't want to debate and i don't care if you think my points are incorrect, goodbye

im just imagining if you walked into a room irl and expressed your opinion on something while a bunch of people are having an interesting conversation and then said this.

you said 'everything in life is a choice, we have freedom' I just responded to that while we live under capitalism no such thing as everything in life is a choice and freedom. but i dont get how this shows a point as life isn't simply. Life would exactly be simple if we could just do what ever we would feel like, but maybe you disagree on that, and that's where the confusion is?
