My friend was diagnosed with a super short questionnaire.
I was diagnosed with a super in-depth assessment that took several sessions and it included intellectual/cognitive tests to rule out other types of developmental delays.
I honestly dont like that much teh questionnaires, i feel a lot of people might get misdiagnosed by that. Yeah you probably did like mine. It took me almost a month, everyweek i went to the hospital like two or three times and did a bunch of cognitive tests
Mine was questionnaires along with the cognitive tests, both.
I was misdiagnosed as bipolar so they wanted to re-test me for that too
Still you've done cognitive test, I dont really undestand how could you diagnosed with such a disorder with only questionnaires about behaviour.

I dunno where you live, but where I am (rural kentucky) a lot of mental health issues are "diagnosed" by just "seeing if the meds work"

I have a question. I see a lot of people get diagnosed by a psychologist, how is the process of getting diagnosed? like do you need to do some cognitive, hearing and seeing tests like if you were diagnosed by a neurologist? or do you get just like a list of symptoms?
I was seeing a psychiatrist and she sent me to a neuropsychologist, tested for personality disorders, autism n adhd I think, filled out multiple questionnaires, did a lot of tests, I think all together it took like 5-6 hours but I didn't get diagnosed w anything at that time tho (since I didn't have adhd/autism and was under 18 so no pd diagnosis) but I think that I could only have gotten a suggestion of diagnosis from him n then my psychiatrist would have diagnosed me after that if she saw fit
wierd. Maybe you were misdiagnosed, but i dont know because neuropsychologist are usually oriented towards adhd, autism and similars.
I didn't have a lot of symptoms then, not like now at least so it might b from smth else, dunno, was 3+ years ago, got two personality disorder diagnosies after that from a different dude thats a psychologist (but trained in personality disorders diagnosing or sum idk) but everyone kinda forgot abt the adhd/autism thing n I quit 1-2 years ago so

My psychiatrist sent me to one to do an attention test. I had to pay attention and click something on a screen for a period of time. Ofc I didn't last long lol.
and dindt you need to do like math problems or like listen to sounds and stuff like that? ummm interesting.
My memory is rly bad so all I remember is sitting in front of a screen clicking some blue shape whenever it popped up. Idk if they did more than that or not.

well if you feel like you need or want to get tested again maybe you could try to contact to a adhd or autsim specialist. Dont know were you live but maybe you could access to one.

Not supposed to be possible with ADHD meds since it's a controlled substance... But ig there's ways to abuse the system.

Is really interesting to hear how other people got diagnosed and what they needed to do. I also cant remember most of my tests tho

I think the neuropsychologist is the only dude but I feel like bleh, wouldn't work anyway cus I hate talk therapy n couldnt get meds unless I lie abt previous drug use, and that would b counterintuitive if im trying to figure out whats wrong

Well ye, it might be that it didn't take as much for me bc I was seeing my psych every so many weeks and he knew from that that my diagnosis would be inattentive ADHD. The test was probably just extra confirmation that I had difficulty focusing.

I mean yeah its a total pain the ass to get ADHD meds in general, they still "screen" folks for ADHD but it's certainly not as rigorous as it could be here

Yup gotta thank the dumb NTs thinking ADHD meds aren't what we tell them they are.

oh i want that for me too
im gonna go to my doctor and ask if i can try to start on some adhd medication at some point but it just seems like it's never a good time. always something to do with uni so i would only really be able to do it during a summer holiday :-( in case it fucks me up and i stop functioning completely lol

Depending on where you're from it can really be a process. I think it's at least fair to say they'll usually start on the lowest dose possible to gauge how a certain med affects you so it should be relatively safe if determined you had ADHD.
