I am more so stopped by consequences, being nice has good consequences and being mean for no reason has bad consequences so I tend to act nice (ish), doesn't feel fake cus I don't want harm to ppl exactly lmao so it is what it is. Same with more serious stuff, murder, stalking etc, I don't want to do it but if I did, the consequences would stop me even if I don't have empathy

but if your desires are stronger than your will to abide by negative/positive consequences, then someone with low empathy will be more likely to do these bad things (whether we are talking about minor or more serious stuff here)

I have no strong desires in my life, but if I had that strong desires, then empathy wouldn't stop me either

Well, not entirely. For instance someone with anti-social personality disorder isn't choosing to feel empathy it's a mask they're wearing. Now ik this isn't exactly about extreme disorders like that, but just an example.

I feel like you’re basing this purely on your own experience, sounds very anecdotal. If you have self control and common sense you can still abstain from doing something like that despite low empathy. The reason I do things aren’t dictated by my ability to put myself in their shoes or whatever

do you mean that even if i had a lot of empathy, i still would've done the things i did since "i lacked common sense and self-control?"

I usually just shut up instead cus its less effort, I don't like having to fake empathy and my friends know so they don't care and certain stuff they won't talk to me abt if they don't want other responses than "oh poor u" etc, thank god

like it’s clearly a combination of traits that makes one act in a certain way, to just brush it off as being entirely due to low empathy sound like you don’t want to examine other flaws you might have 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
