btw i answered field because i thought the IV was being manipulated but the setting was natural (doctors office) as a school was an example of being natural so i thought the same for doctors

answer turned out to be lab
your thought process makes sense you just arrived at the wrong place

ye if we saw the assignment we could all chat about your answers on it
"This experiment involved inviting participants to take part in a study. They were medically examined prior. The researchers then pumped smoke into the Doctor's waiting room and got confederates (actors) to sit there and do nothing, The researchers wanted to see how long the participants would be sit there before alerting people/leaving themselves"

what about control groups?
like this would be a lab experiment because they controll the environment to eliminate interference factor but i'm not sure if it's a real or simple experiment or a pre experimental
without knowledge about the control group (idk about the terms in english for sure, too lazy to google)
are the participants examined to pick the participants out of a group to make sure they are not mentally ill and will falsify the study or is the examination part of the experiment situation because examination and testing will change the subjects if they are tested a second time
this is like my second week so idk what any of this is 😔so lab is controlled environment as well as artificial? like people have been TOLD to go to that particular place

lab is always artificial as far as i know because the scientist have to controll the set up and they can only do that if they remove all the interference factors so they can say for sure that the (manipulated) independent variables is responsible for the change and no other variables influence the dependent variables (those are usually measured before and after the experiment)

but I guess my question is, can an artificial setting be in a place like a prison? cause I was thinking they took place in some white room 🤣

yeah, i think so? as long as the scientist can controll the variables there and manipulate the independent variable

ok i read it up in my notes and it says that field experiments take place in the subjects natural environment and the lab experiments always have low external validity because no one acts the same in a lab as they do in their natural environment, however the lab experiment has high intern validity which means that they are more sure that the independent variable is the cause of the thing because the other variables are measured too but the transferability (=external validity) is low because you act different in a controlled lab setting as you would do in your natural environment.
and if the independent variable is manipulated BY the scientists it can't be a quasi/natural experiment because there they only interpret something that happened without any action by the scientists as the independent variable and the scientists don't do a set up of any kind

idk if that helps i don't understand stuff too most of the time XD
