trisha paytas and mental health

idk man i don't see why this would all be the internet's fault. my parents for sure haven't seen any mental health content on tumblr or even movies about mental health but they still reacted to my mental illness in the way she's talking about. i think people just want to be performatively supportive to look like a Good Person but they don't wanna actually deal with someone being symptomatic and all that difficult stuff. and they won't bother learning about mental illness bc they don't really care

that was interesting about trisha but i haven't seen the other videos that were referenced here so i don't think i can say much about her. good on her for getting help though

I watched and im conflicted
I love psych irl but
they said a lot without really saying anything that groundbreaking
mental illness is complex, yes, water is wet
mental illness has been misconstrued on the internet and we shouldn't call people crazy, I agree
but watching people go through these downward spirals feels wrong, and I got the same feeling rewatching trash reality tv with my bf recently (who has a degree in psych)
the whole thing felt like an exploitation of mental illness, as a viewer I felt like I was witnessing something too personal for tv, but they commercialized it for views.
Trisha, knowingly or not, made her career off her illness
consumers ate it up to feel better about themselves which is mental all on its own
most of her outbursts are incredibly hard to watch, not because im judging her for her illness, but because it feels too personal and its really none of my business, therefore I can no longer bring myself to watch her

now im left with "ok we know what mental illness can look like, but watching it still feels wrong"
yea i think thats often the case with donna's content like she says a lot but doesn't say much this video could have been half as long and still covered the same ground.

i think feeling like 'watching trish feels wrong' is a valid take for sure. but like i don't THINK i watch fenemies BECAUSE trish is ill- i watch because she's funny and her on screen chemistry with ethan is top tier. and i hope that's why most people are watching? and that seeing her mental health struggles is a side effect.  but yea i probably DO watch 90day fiance because im entertained by how mental these people are? so theres a question here about the morality of being entertained by someone who is mentally ill.

the really interesting part to me i think was this idea of like a story arc. like people are frustrated with trisha because she doesnt have a story arc- shes just struggling and we're sort of forced to watch that without ever being fulfilled with the 'plot'.
I get that, trust me ive tuned into too many 90day fiancé episodes too hahaha
I dont think mental illness makes someone a bad person, however you can be a bad person with mental illness and there person who best fits this description is trump
he is without a doubt mentally ill and evil
and I sure as heck find enjoyment watching him spiral, however it is actually mildly terrifying
Trisha is able to recognize her actions are the result of her illness, trump will never take accountability for any of his actions and will in fact double down when called out. that's the difference. I dont think Trisha is inherently a bad person, I think she's just struggling in the very toxic environment which is the internet. trump through and through is a bad person period.
yea i think youre right.

and i think with someone like trish a lot of people are on either side of like thinking shes a bad person and ill or thinking shes just ill. if she could get away from the internet it would be interesting to know who she would become- but shes a person that will never be away from the internet. but like same so i aint judging that.

i didn't think it's to say it's the internets fault just that the culture of the internet is a factor. but the culture of the internet is an extension of the culture generally isn't it.

Fuck Trasha, exploiting mental illness and the LGBTQ+ community 4 profit

She constantly lies about the stupidest of shit for attention and profit, I cant even take her seriously

I have no opinion on the video as I've yet to watch it, guess I should

But generally dislike her, find her incredibly selfish and distasteful

Used to laugh at her old videos like "why I'm voting for Mitt Romney" but shes started taking shit way too far I cant support her anymore, pretending that obviously gay back up dancer was her bf for views and lying about it as if her fans were stupid was the final straw for me, and she's gotten worse from there

Havent watched the video yet but trisha is like the walking manifestation of borderline personality disorder mixed with historianic personality traits and deep unresolved trauma like im almost sure she experienced some type of sexual abuse as a child even tho shes never spoken out about it. All the signs are there and she has dropped hints before that i as a survivor of child molestation pick up on very easily.

she's kind of alluded to it on the fenemies podcast actually, she doesn't have to say so. it's her business and maybe it's kinda messed up to speculate- but i'm sure you're right. i am sure you are. i think she's been through more trauma than i can imagine. like we do know about a lot of traumas shes been through because she's so openn about them online. so like if these are the things shes willing to share- what stories does she have that she doesnt tell.

She's a horrible person and her alleged mental health issues do not excuse it.

I didnt watch the entire video but the host did say shes attempting to not excuse her past actions
It seems to be about how our perceptions of mental health are biased and we have no right to judge if trisha is ill or not

Although she clearly lied about going thru opioid withdrawal and having did LOL

oh rito i watched the whole vid, and as a lot of the time with Donna i left it feeling kinda like it was an uncompleted thought or something ... like i don't remember all her points now, but sometimes i feel like i don't really get what conclusion shes trying to make?

Like i feel like then Trisha/ethan dynamic is interesting for saying something about trisha, i don't see really get how the podcast really serves as a way to analyze how mental health is talked about on the internet as a whole

I hope she gets help. Dont see why one should watch her videos for entertainment, its just spiraling her further. Like the youtube attention was a bad addiction
