i have heard mood swings can also be accidentally diagnosed as bpd while it’s actually bipolar disorder

Mood swings do correlate to BPD though.
From my understanding, Bipolar mood swings take place over a longer time, whereas borderline is more from one minute/hour to the other.
yes, i know, meant it more like the conclusion to diagnose someone with either of them should be done carefully ! because it can easily get wrong

I don't understand how that happens but also my old therapist thought I was bipolar n then sent me to a new one n at the first meeting she was like "nahh fam lmao" so ig its possible
emotional turbulence tbh
but yeah i’ve seen clips n read abt people having been misdiagnosed
i’m bipolar myself so i know the emotional turbulence is quite identical, while other symptoms are not alike in the slightest
Yeah but I mean, isn't one of the criteria for bipolar that the mood periods have to last for like a week+ or something, while w borderline its more like, very rapid mood change n usually not over a couple days max
not rly, my moods could change very fast, during one week my mood at the worst could shift like 25 times
i did experience hypomania n depressive episodes tho, and my diagnosis is bipolar but it’s unspecified as it doesn’t strongly belong to a certain type
been on meds since i got my diagnosis and luckily i don’t have any moods swings as long as i take my meds!

But here's a hot-take:

Borderline has become grossly simplified and glorified, ever since Tik-tok found out about it. It's literally become Tumblr with depression and anxiety all over again. :/

there are like 4 types or more? but yeah there are types that are more rapid in the mood shifts! my mom has type one and her periods of moods were half a year at a time, so half the year depressive phase and the other half it was a manic phase
mine shifted more and weren’t as severe

But anywyas, yeah, I think the "milder" types of bipolar is easier to confuse w bpd but I still don't rlly understand how its confusing for mental health professionals w all the extra symptoms of both that don't overlap but ig not every mental health professional is very smart

yeah i agree,, but i guess that’s where lots of testing and assessments needs to be done, as well as look for the patient’s previous history etc? lack of time spent with the patient is a big problem when diagnosing someone and i think that’s where misdiagnosis are being made

theres like a very high percentage of people on vp who have bpd and someone should really look into what the correlation is about
i always assumed it's self diagnosis
i'm sure that's true for some people but in that case we should be looking into why its a common self diagnosis on vp
Also, why do they become the diagnosis.
