Okay, like, yes aa is kind of a fucked program but y'all aren't really helping op's adamant refusal to get help for her addiction so
I literally provided two alternative group recovery programs but aight
It's actually ridiculous that ppl are acting like aa is the primary gold standard for treatment and to be wary of it is denial of a problem in the year 2021

Lmfao,  it makes aa seem more and more creepy like they WANT it to work and it's the only way... it's weird blond faith

Aa works for a lot of ppl

It didnt work for mel Gibson

I mean I would go if I could drink b4hand

So I'll try other stuff
My friend is an LCSW and she specializes with addiction & recovery patients, and while she personally likes the AA lit, lots of her patients don't, but she can usually combat whatever their excuse is with another program.
If the program doesn't vibe with you, try something else, she recommends the virtual rooms bc if you don't like one you can move onto another more easily than local in person stuff.
The programs all get to the same point, just in different ways.

seeing a psych is a really good start, hopefully you got a good one. Do you see a regular therapist too? or is your psych pretty much acting as both

Christianity is predatory as fuck
its like they wait for folks down on their luck and attack
Is it really a coincidence its mostly poor folk and recovering addicts who go to church

W/e helps but I'm still bitter
being born to a single teen mom who was a mentally ill alcoholic who was desperate to find a way to make things right, I remember how easy it was for her to get roped into church programs that quickly became culty
I remember the last church though, the pastor told my mom "you're more than welcome here, but you are looking for something you aren't going to find in a church and that's okay"
and hooooly fuck was that a game changer for her in the best possible way
Tthese are the kinds of pastors I like

I dont have a problem with religion or small community churches

What I dislike are mega churches or any group- no matter how small- trying to push a political agenda onto those weaker than them (and I'm of the view aa has an agenda tbh, I've done a lot of reading and I've attended the meetings with my mom fyi)

My mom came out of her psychotic break getting really into bible study and that's fine, I don't deny at all faith can motivate ppl

I mean, if you don't trust AA and think they have an agenda, then it's not gonna work for ya
similar to like, if you can't trust your therapist, they can't help you

my mom had some FREAK ASS culty religious stuff left on her TV when she was committed, it really freaked me out that kind of stuff she was absorbing while vulnerable.

Aabstinence isnt my goal, I know several here will frown on that

I'm interested in moderating my drinking, and not drinking as a coping skill, I consider that reasonable, I wasnt physically dependent tbh

I like that you say "whatever excuse" that rings home lol

I like my psych a lot, she isn't a pharma pusher, I see a therapist too and my psych asks me what my therapist teaches me

My therapist has only seen me twice and is pushing the idea that I'm bipolar ii it's kinda shady imo

But my psychiatrist is monitoring my drinking and will offer me gabapentin if I need it (I dont)

She thinks I drink to cope with depressive episodes I agree, she isnt forcing me to quit drinking I appreciate
