I haven't met anyone who thinks YA has literary masterpieces. However, what it does well is hitting its audience through common themes relating to teenhood (in any genre), using its readers to advertise online and create community, being accessible (generally easy writing styles, easy to obtain books, not too expensive), and having a plethora of different stories with continued input of diversity. At the bottom, I rly just don't believe that it's worth working actively to enforce something that is going to fuck with other people's happiness. People should be encouraged to read, not told what they read and love isn't as good as they think. If it bothers someone, find the sphere where you get what you need if YA ain't it.

i think litbros gatekeeping literature because you haven't read some old ass man's books, is ridiculous.
however i think gatekeeping literature as in "YA shouldn't be treated like literary masterpieces" is alright and should be enforced more lol.
I don't really believe in villanizing any genre or demographic as better or worse. Reading is mainly a solitary experience, even though the online community easily can influence the overall perspectives of a book, and make it transcend what the book it started out as through the fans. i think litbros gatekeeping literature because you haven't read some old ass man's books, is ridiculous.
