well i'm not gatekeeper at anything at first place, but nothing really. people read so different books and has different tastes, so you can't expect that somebody has read anything. also if someone is popular in some country doesn't mean they are such a big deal in some other country and so on

So authers that say the gatekeeping was right, you would have to have read in order to call yourself a book worm? My first thoughts are George Orwell or Wilde, i feel like everyone and their grandma have read a book from either or both of them

I don't stalk authors like that, but like anyone who says "you gotta read something to be validated as x reader" has clearly not read enough. I don't think the empathy obtained from reading has sunk in yet.

Generally,
- classics
- you can't be a proper hp fan without having read the books
- adults @ teen books and readers

I don't think this answered anything.

Not everyone is capable of feeling empathy, no matter how many books they read. It's just how their brain is wired

Let me clarify my comment since I have no interest in going down into this line of discussion. My comment is made on a general basis where people do feel empathy. It is based on a study done that reading makes you more empathic as you learn more of the world and different experiences of people. The comment is also ironicly stated.
