and i am not talking about the people who undergo surgery to remove limbs. although, they are very obviously severely mentally ill to a degree that you perhaps should show some kindness on grounds of them being, well, severely mentally ill.
i am talking about the trans people you are comparing them to.

in their post, azriel said: "i dont think its the same as transsexuality, mentally maybe a little but the outcome is very different", to which you responded that "both go through with mutilating themselves"

but you obviously have a very strict definition of mutilation, because rather few would define plastic surgery as mutilation, and a severe lack of understanding for rhetorics and how the words you choose have an impact.
also, whether or not you view it as mutilation or not, is completely irrelevant to gender affirming surgery it is life bettering or necessary, lol.
im just using the word as used in the dictionary, and i am speaking in medical terms as in life bettering or neccessary, that its not medically neccessary but only mentally, comparing it to that of a person who feels dysphoria regardless if it is bc of gender or disabledness
and words can be negatively loaded, even if they are in the dictionary. do you not understand the field of rhetoric? semantics? this is like that tumblr post about the hospital who took some weird interior design choices.

also, you deciding that its not medically necessary for trans people to have gender affirming surgery is the total opposite of what most medical practicioners mean, and for some reason i'd rather trust their expertise than some obsfucating avatar forum user.

don't know the tumblr post you're talking about but sure

you're questioning my understanding of certain words but it feels like you fail to understand that your perception of a word is not how others perceive it, thats why a dictionary exists with descriptions with uses of said word, that's how im using it

by medically neccessary i mean physical emergencies where if not treated ones physical health worsens

gender reassignment surgery is not done because the person will die from a brain tumor or something, but i do understand that mentally it will peobably not make them feel like killing themselves and overall feel happier

The most tragic part about this mental illness is the fact, that the people who suffer the most from it usually end up trying to self mutilate their own body by removing a body part or doing self-harm in another way to become disabled. Some people actually have it bad enough to be able to get life altering surgery with the help of medical professionals.

nothing exists in a vacuum, least of all language. every word you utter is a series of choices, unconcious or not. the case the murder of palestinian journalist shireen abu akleh is a textbook example of intentional language use to shift perspectives on a matter. “Shireen Abu Akleh, Trailblazing Palestinian Journalist, Dies at 51" was one of the first headlines, describing her death as a death - when it was in fact a murder. at a later time, it was revealed that she was in fact killed by israeli soldiers, something that was reported as her dying at the hands of a bullet.

if words and language do not matter and dictionary definitions are the one things that matter, does that mean you see no problem with referring to black people as the n-word? gay people as faggots? if that's not okay, why is it okay to use obviously negative wording about trans people?

it seems that you fail to understand that most, if not all, people who speaks english view "mutilation" as a negatively loaded word. why is it called female genital mutilation if its a neutral or positive word? why is it that foreskin activists intentionally use the word male genital mutilation if its not negative? why is it that mutilation has been used as a legalese word for maiming and harming people if it is not negative? why has mutilation been a punishment for crimes in socities if it isnt negative?

people have surgeries that aren't immediately life saving or for general bettering. like gastric bypass surgeries. a lot of people could do fine without them, but it makes it easier to lose weight. not having it won't kill them. or surgeries for chronic pain. their chronic pain rarely worsens or kills them, but having a surgery for it is life bettering.

using the word mutilation as a comparison to slurs is reaching

it really isnt complicated, cut off, damage, remove, destroy etc. is a form of mutilation, hence my choice of words
