paperbacks are easier to handle and don't weigh too much
plus i don't think they look any worse than hardcovers

Ahh, the big dilemma!
I like hardcovers when there are books I am really hyped for and know I will like, but not if the book is more than 600-700 pages. Then it becomes weightlifting over time. However, thick, small pockets aren't ideal either for length so I would prefer longer books to be "heftet." I like pockets for quick reads. Those I pick up for enjoyment or curiosity solely, or if it has the superior cover.

Since I buy most of my books in English and relatively shortly after release, the price of hardcover online is basically the same as buying it as a pocket in-store, so...

When I actually read a book instead of a ebook. I usually go paperback cus cheap. However I'll get hardcover if that's all they have in the book that I want at the time/the cover art looks really good!

It's hard to decide really, paperback is usually cheaper and easier to hold while reading,  but hardcover is soo nice looking! etc. Although I say this and 99% of my books are hardcover except for those little novel type books
