is work supposed to be like this

is work really supposed to make you THIS exhausted ???

idk as soon as i get to work i just feel fucking hopeless? i can't explain it but it feels so heavy and the other day i was on the brink of tears bc i just did not have the energy to do what i was supposed to do, but i can't skip work tasks like that or prioritize because everything i have to do is something i really HAVE to do every day, all day
and when i get home i'm so tired, i sleep away my days off, i just sleep and sleep and when i'm not sleeping i'm just in bed unable to get up and do anything, more or less

in the beginning it was a bit easier when i hadn't worked like this for a longer period of time, it was still exhausting but i thought it was just that whole getting used to-period fucking w me because i realize you get tired when it's new and you're not used to working like that etc. mm no it's gotten WORSE which i'm not used to lol. at my last work i was constantly tired the first month or two but then it got better once i got into it but with this job it's like... almost unbearable

it's both physically tiring and mentally tiring. i work in the kitchen at a retirement home. i cook for 20+ people several times a day, i serve, clean up, do the dishes, take care of the orders (which sucks ASS esp since my bosses are fucked in the head and claim i'm doing it wrong when i know i'm not lol they just blame me when they've forgotten to order the things i've written down. trust me i make copies of the orders so i know what i've ordered. anyways that's another discussion).
on top of that i need to take care of the elderly idk it's a dementia home and jesus christ it's so fucking messy bc the kitchen is like the "core" of the whole place and whenever someone needs something they go there, to me. when they wander they wander to the kitchen, and into the kitchen (and again my cunt bosses have decided that the kitchen should be open for them to enter at all times bc ohhh it's so amazing that they want to be engaged in our work and help out but in reality the elderly are just in my fucking ass all the time and disrupting my work. i sound like a shit person now but i don't mean it like that)
i apparently can't sit down for any amount of time at all which i don't understand? how the fuck am i supposed to work 12 hour shifts without being able to sit down and breathe for just 5 minutes? the fuck?

i've checked the laws about work hours and all shit regarding that and hm my work hours are not against the law but it's LITERALLY on the actual fucking line that it's against the law and i want to die

this week for example. i worked a 12 hour shift this monday, worked more regular days tuesday and wednesday, today is a day off but on friday, saturday and sunday i work 12 hour shifts again. then i'm free on monday but back to work on tuesday again and the rest of the weekdays. idk i just don't have the time to actually rest when i do have days off

maybe i'm just a brat lol idk. but then again we're about 8 people who work like this and we are all so fed up and exhausted so... not just me....

I don't think this is allowed, sure the hours might be legal but going without breaks is a no-no. try to look up if you can unionizeĀ

the salary is shit too LMAO. but this company is taking advantage of us. we are all people who come from long term unemployment or other things that have made us not get a job and we don't(/didn't) have many options so we HAD to take this to be able to just have... something

we do have breaks, i have a one hour break when i work a 12 hour shift (which i feel is too little hhhh but i don't think that's against the law either) BUT i'm not really allowed to sit down for 5 minutes or so if i'm not on my break which i think is FUCKED. like i'm not trying to be lazy, i'm literally just trying to breathe lmao

the shit thing about working in the elderly care or in health care or w/e is that regular job laws don't apply. i'm not kidding - they don't fucking apply. it's perfectly legal to have someone work 7-22 one day and then come in and work 7-22 the next as well. that shit would not be legal in any other area yet it is in that one.

oh and yeah, working in elderly care sucks ass. it's horrible a lot of the time but hopefully you'll feel better about it soon or find something else soon.

actually yes, when working with care related things it is legal not to have breaks. for example when you work in a group home or something in the likes, or as a personal assistant, working long shifts with no actual breaks is the norm. which is fucked, yes. it's just that normal work laws don't apply.Ā

Can you not talk to them about scheduling?
Even if your hours aren't reduced, at least give you 2 consecutive days off.Ā
When I worked 12 hr shifts at one hospital, I worked 3 days in a row, was off the rest and the hospital was awesome because they paid me for 40 hrs in spite of.Ā
Good luck and I hope things work outĀ

hm maybe it's just really different compared to what country you live in, in Sweden you cannot work for more than 5 hours without a break, even with this type of job
