I live at the very end of...well, skid row lol.
there's one house between me and the train tracks
Between that house, and the train tracks, theres a little gravel road that only has a few houses on it and I'm 99% sure someone down there sells pills but that's neither here nor there

The house next to me seems to be some kind of squat house, someone owns it and mows, but no one lives there.  I've fed some of the homeless folk who have stopped there but no one has ever "lived" there full time since like 2018 - and they didn't even have utilities on back then, I'd let them charge their phones on my outside outlet. Every once in a while someone parks in the driveway and sleeps in their car.

During my 3 hour zoom meeting (lol ugh) they started poking around out there (which is very distracting bc my home office does not have curtains yet) but they left after about 20 minutes.

Tonight I get home from trying to get my anxiety and sads out with a good long drive, and I get in the house and a ton of cops start pulling up, and poking around with flashlights out there, talkin' loud as fuck but I couldn't make anything out. The houses are way too close together so they were literally right outside my window.

I hate being the nosey neighbor but yo
whats going on
who called these mfs on an empty house lol

are you a nosey neighbor?

It is most likely a neighbour who didn't "agree" with squatting a house, and therefore called the coppers.

Speaking from experience, there'll probs always be one person in your neighbourhood who don't like or "agree" with squatting who'll rat out and call the cops.

We have some new neighbors but they seem just as trashy as the rest of us idk.
I try to meet and get to know all my neighbors but I haven't seen an opening to meet them (yet somehow I met their landlord? lol)

the rest of us all don't really care.
I mean, now that I live alone I get a little nervous when folks start knocking on my door and asking to use my phone and stuff but I try to remind myself most folks are not out to get me lol

Obviously I don't know your neighbours, but if it's anything like where I live, and it used to be a working class area but has been gentrified by rich kids, you really can't "trust" any of them to be... I guess? "pro squatting", even if they like the "trashy" aesthetic of the neighbourhood.
idk if I'm making sense..... I'm just babbling from a child of two squatters view lol

I wouldn't doubt someone calling, but honestly, no one comes this far down the street unless they're supposed to be down here, y'know?
Its the abandoned house, me, my best friend, and across from us is the new neighbors, and a woman with hardcore schizophrenia.
Unless a property owner who doesn't live here (landlords, who tend to suck) has started to boo-hoo to the city about "property values" I can't imagine who woulda even known this house was empty.

My bet is on the landlords then, honestly.
Actually.. it's 97% them LMAO

My old slumlord (I used to live on the OTHER end of the street), who doesn't even live IN THIS TOWN came into town and complained to the codes dept about my friends potbellied pigs!
now my friends are fighting to get the city codes changed, bc our codes are older than potbellied pigs as a breed lol

I've lived in this neighborhood since 2015, and cops poking around down here seems to happen heavy every year or so.
One year they parked a car next to the train tunnel (where the homeless camp is) and started filming folks going in and out, which is real fuckin' sad honestly bc it doesn't solve a problem it just moves it
